...but I think I am up to it.

Hello from Jackson Michigan.

My last sled was a 91 Phazer I sold in 97. Just picked up (a couple of months ago) an excellent condition 02 SXR 600 with 600 mi cause the Phazer was indestructible, and I hope this one will be too.

Had to replace the hyfax, and wear bars, but otherwise the sled seems very nice. Guess we will know when I am able to actually ride it.

Spent some time this fall building a trailer for the sled. Yes I know trailers are readily available however, I wanted a small, tilt bed, one place, to tow behind a compact car. Wanted it to tuck in nicely and not hang out in the wind.

My plan is to ride around here when I can, and go to the upper peninsula a couple of times a year with friends. I am hoping with limited use this sled will last a few years. I am recently retired and will keep the sled stock and try to stay out of the way of the hot rods on the trails.

Below are a couple of pics...

Nice site you folks have here. I look forward to learning a lot from it.

Thanks!

she's a beauty for sure, you just bought one of the most reliable sleds yamaha made, you'll have no problems with it with regular maintenance.

try a search tons of info on that sled or post up any Q's you may have
:wel: to TY.

Welcome

Awsome sled!!! ;)! love the tractor to!! Your in the rite place for everything yamaha and alot of things not. Enjoy!! :winterrul

Welcome to the site, and back to the sport. That sled will last a long time with easy maintenance.

Build yourself a salt shield for that trailer to keep the sled clean when you do trailer. You'll kick yourself if you don't.

I am in Howell, so let me know if you ever need someone to ride with down here.

Welcome!!!!!!!Very nice sled you picked up but I like your yard toy(tractor) better. LOL Whats does that have for an engine and who built it?

Thanks for the nice welcome and kind words guys!

daman,
Glad to see I made the correct choice with this sled. I almost bought a fuel injected cat, and was getting ready to make an offer on it, when the SXR became available. My good experience with the old Phazer helped in selecting another Yamaha.

Ding,
Good advice on the salt shield. Doesn't show in the photos but I did build a removable shield for the front of the trailer. Will put it on when it gets sloppy on the roads.

ExpertXViper,
Tractor is a mid 60s Wheel Horse that originally came with a 6HP Tecumseh. The Tecumseh got a bit tired so I put one of those 6.5hp $129.00 Harbor Freight Chinese engines in it. The engine is a copy of the Honda small engine that has been around for years. The Chinese simply ripped off the design. Love it when the Chinese rip the Japanese, like they did to us!.

Finally got a chance to test this sled out. After plowing most of the day rearranging the foot of snow we got I dumped the sled off the trailer for my first ride.

Very nice, and a bunch of fun even though I only was able to go 5 miles. Not the greatest riding area around here but i did get to try it. Sled ran great and handled well. Plenty of power for this old man and I did manage to get it to 70 mph once. Was only able to do short full throttle bursts and the tach seemed to hang around 8000 rpms.

Going north after Christmas and I wanted to get at least a short test ride. I think it's ready and I think I will like this sled a lot!

Welcome to the site!

Yeah, that looks like a really clean sled. Those 600SXRs are very reliable, and good on gas too. You made a very wise decision in getting the yamaha over the cat. Cat's, especially EFI ones have a lot of issues.

Have fun!

yep...welcome. You picked up a real nice sled there. They are bulletproof,I should know..I have a 2001 SXR600 and it runs great.Have nearly 11,000 km's on it and it just keeps chugging along. And I am not gentle with it either as it is my ditchbanger and I really put it to the test every season. The 600
motors are really tough and bulletproof.

yeah.stay away from the cats.My cousin blew up his clutch twice last year and finally blew up his motor on his Cat to.I was talking to one of his buddies on a job and he told me this. This guy has an older Yamaha and he says to me..Yamaha is the better sled for sure.

I also encourage you to get a salt shield on that trailer. Doesnt have to be fancy. You can cut a plastic 55 gallon drum in half from the top down and mount it on.

I would also invest in a full cover that covers the skis and a white cloth hood cover.

The white cloth hood cover will prevent the paint rubbing and getting scrathced if it flaps in the wind.

Thats a beautiful sled!!!!

I think he made a salt shield for it. I would like to see it.
