What do most of you do to lock up your sleds, At home mine are in the garage, But what worries me is out on the trail, when we spend the night and the sleds are just sitting outside, It would be easy for someone to take them.
Of course the keys are out.... Any ideas you guys came up with????
Lock them together with chain/aircraft cable???

You haul a enclosed or open trailer? IMO it best just to load em up for the night rather than wake up in the morning scratching your head wondering where your sled went, esp. if its not insured.

No Trailer, I live right by a trail head, So i drive right out of my gararge.. But we go an hour or two up north and stay the night at a hotel. Then they sit outside.. They are insured but still thats a pain in the a$$. Rather have my sleds..

Unbolt the front skis? That will make it a little tougher to steal. Or at least make someone elses more appealing.

I use ss cable when I park mine. Put the cable through the tracks.

Here is another idea Why don't you put a tracking device on it or you can use a older cell phone with gps on so if your sled does get stolen you know where your sled is.

I thought about the gps thing, But if they take it and strip it it may only be a few hours before its battery is dead or its smashed.

I was thinking the cable thru the sleds idea also.. That plus the Cat cover...they would for sure leave it alone then =)

I bring a cable and lock em together, makes them that more deturing.

Also usually park RIGHT in front of my room if possible so you would hear if the ole triple fires.

I take the belt off along with the spare.

Too much work... Plus It doesnt help if they pick it up and put on a truck or trailer....

Maybe a car alarm, So if its jiggled enough( someone sits on it) or handlebars turn the alarm goes off... just and idea...

Most experienced sled thieves simply pick up the sled and cart it off. While a novice might steal the sled for a thrill ride, most stolen sleds get sold as parts. They don't care if they run, or have parts missing.

The best way to prevent this is to tie several sleds together or to an immovable object with a cable that is hard to cut.

There are places like Revy B.C. where sled theft happens all the time. There are good reads over on Snowest about ways to prevent this.

I know snowest.com, The stuff I saw was for the ford trucks getting stolen..
not exactly the sleds, By the sounds of it there in BC even if they are locked in the trailer they just take the whole thing, or take them out of the trailer...

We lock up our sleds when we stay overnight at a hotel, usually a long bike lock, string it through the ski suspension "a-arms or trailing arms" I purchased a track lock that works really well. If you if you want to do something really simple just take the plus wires off and or if you have a sneaky place to put an in-line fuel shut off. Be creative.

why you guys worried about getting your sleds stolen? If i ever stay a hotel or something simaler, i just take the key out and go on inside... I'm not worried about some one stealing my sled. And if it happens then i'll just use the Gps tracking device that is on the sled. and activate the 12 gauge shot gun that pops out of the dash aimed at the drivers face.

I personally only have liability insurance only. So if my sled gets stolen.....TOO BAD!! In my opinion it is not worth it to have full coverage on a snowmobile. Insurance companies are getting tighter and tighter with sleds and even motorcycles. All my toys have liability only so only I am responsible if something happens to my things. That is just my 2 cents and how I roll......If my sled got stolen the only people I could call would be the police, my liability insurance does not cover theft. Yeah I could get full coverage but with such short winters it is not worth it. I will take my chances on locking it up overnight at a hotel.

And it's pretty easy to hot wire a sled....just ask my brother in law! LOL
