stock srx compression question along with helix?
A stock 2001 700 srx does anyone know what the compression is suppose to be ...?
On my guage it's showing 120 , 120 , 117 just seems alittle low to me ...
Also
I have a helix with the numbers 1 2 3 on it no other numbers on it or name anyone have any idea what make it is or what angle it would be, it came off my 1998 srx bought it up in Cambellton nb years ago and forgot to ask the owner what degree it was...?

this thread has been beat to death but try some searches on "srx compression" but i think you would be ok ...(my 2 cents) when was the last time it was rebuilt and how many miles are on the sled to todate....

click on the search icon on the tool bar and input srx compression , it has been discussed alot on this site , you will find a lot of informative stuff should you take the time to read , for anybody to answer you would not be all that accurate as thre are a lot of variables .

only has about 1500 km's on piston's rings, heads are stock and new crank seals done last week...all stock
Well thanks i read the other posts and looks like maybe I should borrow another gauge and try it again, It was pretty warm when i tried it so I'll try it now and see what it says...
Ok so I tried it cold it's showing around 124 p.s.i all 3 cylinders ???

when i picked up mine last month it showed 128 on all three. Make sure you hold the throttle open when you do it.

hey
Yeah throttle was wide open, pulled it 4 times per cyl, the gauge wasn't the best to read so I just guessed about 124 p.s.i I'll have to borrow another compression gauge and see if it changes...

Yeah man, That's fine.

A good gauge will make the difference, when I had my SRX we tried some no name compression tester and they all read 120, a friend brought home his snap on tester and wallah...140. We then tried this other tester on his sled, same results. Even is good.
Did both of those testers have the exact same length, I.D hose? Stock SRX's? I've never in my life seen a stock SRX with 140 PSI?

As far as I know it was stock. Just had reeds, some different clutching and airbox mods..nothing to my knowledge that would affect compression. I had other testers read 140 at my local Yammy shop. I thought that was normal?98700 said:Did both of those testers have the exact same length, I.D hose? Stock SRX's? I've never in my life seen a stock SRX with 140 PSI?

No 140-143 Is quite above the average of 120-130 MAX on a stock sled.
Check your squish, I'm curious to see what it's at? If you have the heads off at anytime, PM what they cc at!
Thanks, Nik!

tripple blew the motor and parted the sled out, i got 2 of the cylinders and heads, i know for sure his heads had been cut, just not sure how much , so that should explain how he got the 140 psi reading.

squish
i checked the heads out before removing and they had 70 tho squish.....reason for removavale was it kept leaking antfreeeze even w new o rings so my dad is a machinist ....put it on his lathe and they were out of round 20 tho. so he rounded em up and took another 10 tho. off, put it all back together and had 40 tho squish and no leak.....had rite around 140 before i started and ended up with 153-155

you mean the head was warped and not out of round? i wouldn't suggest running that motor on the trails w/.040" squish.
I wouldn't EVER run that .040" squish on the trails!!!!!!!!!!

What cc in the heads? What squish band width? What squish angle?

Damn, the people that bought the good heads got a hell of a deal then. I had no clue about the heads, you would think the seller would have mentioned the heads being modified?blueracer said:tripple blew the motor and parted the sled out, i got 2 of the cylinders and heads, i know for sure his heads had been cut, just not sure how much , so that should explain how he got the 140 psi reading.
