Anyone here install this kit on their Yamaha Triple, I'm having trouble getting clearance for the hoses against the intake boots and engine mounts.. any ideas??

I just installed one of these on my Viper and I know what your talking about. It was hard to install it without kinking or pinching off the lines/hoses.

I was ready to cut the lines shorter but Bender doesn't recomend it. What I did was reversed the center and PTO lines, seems to fit much better now.

Oh yeah, I installed the brass fittings for the Mag and Ctr carb on the left side of the carb and the fitting for the PTO carb on the right side of the carb. Are MM carbs the same, can you drill either side?

Something to watch out for: Some of these kits come with soft crappy oil line that bends and pinches too easy, in this case go to your sled dealer and get some good, stiff primer line and replace it all. Other kits (probably newer updated ones?) already have the good line.
 
Yes the MMax carbs are the same, I wish I put the center fitting on the left side also, would have made it alot easier, the motor mount and oil pump is in the way of the t fitting, I dont' know what to do. Did you put your hoses behind the rack mount or in front of it, can you take a couple of pictures of the install and post them here, im sure alot of people would benefit from this. Also arent' all the hoses the same length?? mine are blue hoses and look all the same length.

Damn, I should have got a pic of the carb rack with the kit installed before I put them back in the sled.

The hoses are in front of the rack, I tried them behind but they looked like they were gonna chafe.

Also the hose you unplug from the fuel pump, tuck that one down as far as it will go and loop up on the right side of the left motor mount. I don't know if this makes sense or not, again it might be slightly different on a Viper and MM.

Yeah, all 3 hoses are the same length. The kit with the crappy hoses and the kit with the good hoses both have blue hoses, you can really tell the difference when you have both kits side-by-side. I got both of them, the kit with the good hoses with have "clippard" written in white letters on the blue hoses.

I just took a picture of my kit installed, you probably won't be able to see anything from it but thats the best I can do for now, sorry...
 
Here is a pic of the carbs before I installed them, there are different ways to route the hoses, cross over two, or not, inside the rack housing or outside, I have them installed now but the hoses are tight and rub against the lower motor mount part, they are working I guess but............

Maybe put some plastic wire loom on the hoses just in case. Looks like your kit has the good stiff hoses too so thats good. Do you have the carbs on yet? I never primed the lines with oil because I wanted to clearly see if the oil was going to flow through all 3 lines. I just started up the sled and let it idle and pulled up on the oil pump cable. I noticed that the oil took longer to flow through the two lines that make a 90 turn at the brass splitter, I hope its nothing to worry about and that those two cylinders will get enough oil, we'll see I guess. :wink:

gripper: I would say it would be OK because it only changes the way the oil is delivered to the engine. :P
 
Thanks for the reply, I have them installed yes, I bled mine prior to installing, but like you said it's a good idea not to to verify flow, but it's too late now for me, I just hope it works...........
 
I would cut the two hoses that go through the 90 degree angle to make them as short as possible and leave the center one long, that way the flow loss in the long one should equal the flow loss due to the two 90 degree bends.

Just a thought , been working on alot of piping problems at school..
 
Yeah, I thought of that, it might help a bit but I think the problem is mainly because of the straight through flow of the middle line (green arrow). There seems to be more resistance for the oil to flow through the two 90 degree bends (red arrow). (Reminds me of hydraulics class :lol:) If I had paid more attention I would probably know exactly why! lol :x
 
by making the stragiht one long and the two 90 degree ones small you should effectively make the flow losses the same.. since oil flowing through a pipe makes a small loss, oil flowing through a 90 makes a bigger loss, so make the center line as long as possible and the 90 lines short as possible to try and match the flow losses

it should work but its not the best explaination
