this is my first sled so im learning a ton.
I messed with the sled for the first time this past weekend and found that the the RPM's go up to about 6200 befor it startes moving.
Also found that this thing is going to almost 14000 rpm acourding to the tach when wide open. Idel seems to be at around 3200.
Is this most likely a bad tach?
When i bought this the guy said that nothing has been changed on it and it is totally stock other then the studs.
It runs awsome and everyone i know runs cats so i dont know who to ask. Im gong to call sunnyside in alexander here in a few min while im waiting fome someone to chime in

called the shop. They said to try a new belt but its most likely a bad tach.

I dont think a stock CDI would even spin it up to 14000 rpms.

14k you would most likely be picking motor parts out of your belly pan.
First thing to check is the wiring harness rub under the motor if you do a search there are detailed instructions on how to fix it.

ya i called one more place and the old guy there really seemed to know his sleds. Stones in in sodus ny. He said the same that its most likely a rub through on the wiring harness. said it might be the tach but said it was not likely.

sounds like the rpm gauge is bad or it was changed and is a different pulse than the original

called the original owner and he said nothing has been replaced on it. other then the schedualled maint.

will a tach out of a 2000 srx 600 work? im sure it would but just want to double check.

NO 600 SRX IN 2000, WHATEVER IF ITS A SXr 600 OR A 99 600 SRX I WOULD SAY YES. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I just found one on Ebay for 2000 SRX of which he is also selling a hood for 600 so i assumed it was.
Oih. wish i knew someone close by with a srx to try the guage.
I know you dont know me but if i was to bring my guage to you could you test it on one of your sleds?

found a tach on ebay swapped it out today befor i went for my first ride. All is good not more pegged RPM readings.
the trails were a lil rough but man this thing rips.

Check the bolts at your crank sensor.....
