Hello,
Finally a place for yamaha!!
I have a 95 vmax 600 electric start. Here is what it needs............
idler wheels, bearings, rear shocks (either new or rebuilds), front shocks (either new or rebuilds), track and the speedo does not work anymore due to the little wire pin being torn up and stuck in the side of the motor which will have to be taken apart and gotten out of there.
So If I rebuild, whats my damages (cost estimate). And where is a good palce to get these parts.
It had the topend redone last year due to the previous owner not giving it enough oil, and so now the mechanic has it set so it smokes you out and I change plugs after every third ride (60-80 miles in total).
It is fast, but the ride is rough, like riding on concrete onver bumps. Rest of the machine is in very good condition.
Any help.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving, pray for SNOW. Not much here in central wisconsin yet.
Dave

you can find a good used track on this site. There are some decent aftermarket shocks at a good price for those sleds. You will most likely spend $500 to fix if you do all the work yourself. As for the over smoke, too much oil is not a god thing, it will actually lean out your motor. I would go for it...fix and adjust oil setting and ride. Since the top end was just done you should be good to go.
Wasn't this the model with the oil pump issue??? The one where it eventually goes to max oil at any throttle position?
Crew,
Does that mean it will need a new oil pump?
Slowly looking for all the parts and then will spend a day or so putting it back together.
Is taking that track off and replacing it something an average home garage guy can do, or should it go to the shop for that?
I just do not want to get in over my head.
thanks

I believe when the pump goes bad its suppose to pump too much oil.
I would personally look for a diff skid which will be almost the same cost and give you a better ride. Also depends on your abilities.
Tracks can be found for about 100 on ebay on up i got my 136 x 1" for 86 on ebay (shipped) end of last season.

I put a 2000 Venture skid in my 94 Vmax 600 ST longtrack the swap took about 4 hours total but i really took my time. Just about any skid will fit under there. Be sure to have alot of measurements from donor skid. You will need to note drive axle location and distance from top tof tunnel to all bolt holes and how far back on all holes. If mounting location is off skid will bind up.
