Okay guys, So I pulled the carbs off the sled the other day, brought them to work and cleaned them. Noticed some Oily residue in the one. Took them back home, put them back on and reattatched everything like I do every year. Now here's where the problem started... Went to start it, fresh gas in the tank, roughly 15 liters, pulled and pulled and pulled, poured some gas down each cylinder, it would fire then stop, did this 3 or 4 times still would not keep running. I knew there was something else wrong, so i pulled everything back off and found that the carbs were dry, no fuel at all, none even in the lines going to them. So then I went back, pulled the line off the tank and got fuel, pulled that line off the pump and there was fuel there. Then I blew through the tank and got nothing out of the pulse pump, after everything was reattatched. So I figured that the pump was done. Pulled the pump off, (made sure I had a pulse from pulse line though before I went through all this) Took the pump inside and diassembled it. Found it to have oil inside it but no fuel, I did blow in the pulse line hole and heard the diaphragm inside working. I wiped the oil out of it, reassembled it and decided to try it again. Put it back on and left the fuel lines off but reattatched the 3 other lines. Didnt get anything at first and then I got fuel coming out where it was supposed to.

I guess I have 2 questions...
#1 is it possible the pump froze up?? The machine hasnt been out this year at all, there was some old gas in it from last year but hardly any, (maybe 5 liters) I know there was something on here about the vipers having issues but never recalled anything with a srx

#2 Should I just go ahead and replace the pump anyways, better be safe then sorry??

Thanks for the help

Have you checked the pulse line for a tight fit at the crankcase and pump fittings? Is the pulse line still flexible or dried out and stiff? Any cracks in the pulse line? I replaced all the fule lines and the pulse line with a good urethane fuel line on my 2000 SRX since the original lines got pretty hard and were prone to cracking.

Pulse line was replaced last year when I did the motor in it and it works as it should, All lines are in good shape. Theres 10 000km on this pump, Local dealer has one in stock right now. I just found it weird that all of a sudden it would screw up, maybe something else caused this?? And Id much rather fix it now then in -30 below weather lol.

I went to start mine this year after running my sled out of fuel in the spring. I sepnt half a day trying to get it to start. With fuel in the jugs it fires up no problem... it just wasn't getting gas on it's own. I pulled the plugs and poured gas down the jugs about 15 times (PAIN IN THE A$$) Finally it stayed running.
I will never let it run dry again b/c I guess the mechanism in the pump must dry out or it just looses prime.
Not sure if that helps, but I've had this problem two years in a row.. both times I let my sled run dry by using up all of the fuel.

This is the first time I've ever had this problem, had the sled since 03, never has done this before. It always has been a pain in the a$$ to start the first of the season but never like this, I got the new pump, will put it on this weekend likely, hopefully this cures the problem. I figured I'd get the pump anyways, everything else has been redone so why not do that lol

was the sled stored in any extra heat from the sun this year? low on fuel when put awayand up on a jackstand? theresmost likely nothing wrong with the pumpexcept it was dry from the gas evaporating. Wont hurt to have a spare on hand......

Hi Don, The sled was stored in a shed, no really in any extra heat. It was low on fuel when I put it away, I try to get most of the old fuel out before I store it. Stupid me didnt put fuel stabilizer in it. And it was stored up on a jackstand. It was just weird that that when I pulled the lines off the pulse pump and pulled the engine over I wasnt getting any fuel, Pulled the pump apart, wiped it out and put it back on and all the sudden it started pumping. Will keep my old pump though just to have a spare one. Definately a mystery, never has done this before to me.
