Lotus working on 2-stroke

Check out this link! Kind of interesting. I've heard it may be direct injection with variable timing and /or compression. Also heard there is the possibility of using popet valves to allow air into the cylinder so fuel or air does not have to pass through your crank enabling 4-stroke type lubrication. I am in now way an expert on this but simply repeating what I have read. Sounds interesting though.

Unfortunately it will never come stateside, regardless of how green it is.

It is a 2 stroke, and therefore EVIL according to the EPA.


I recall in the late 90's Bimota making the V due v twin Direct injected LC 500cc 2 stroke sportbike, counting on sales in the US to help financially turn around the company. Well, it was clean, powerful, and efficient, but the EPA black listed it in the US. This eventually devastated bimota, and only recently have they rebounded as a very expensive bike maker.

The V due was featered in a snow-tech mag back in the day.

I also remember seeing a show where Ford was testing an Escort with a 2-stroke engine and CVT tranny back in the early/mid 90's. Can't remember the details though.

I think I recall that as well. I bet the EPA squashed that idea too.

About the only street legal 2 strokes are small scooters, and I bet the EPA wants those gone as well.

I think the new 4-stroke Yami's are great but a nice running, clean 2-stroke would be great as well. I wonder, with direct injection if you could also inject the air into the cylinder head, and have a 2-stroke with no ports in the cylinder wall? Would that lead to the possibility of a "no loss" oil system?
