-orange primary spring
-8bu-00 weights
-silver sec spring
-50/44 helix
-22/39 gearing
Now what would be a good starting point to load these 8bu's with in order to achieve the required 8500rpm's??

Why Silver, and orange?
Why Silver, and orange?
But try
.8 Tip
4.5 Inner
If you have a modified engine that will pull the weight try this:
3.1 tip
3.6 inner

Weights/Rivets:
I'm pretty sure that's what you have/had at one point. It's a setup I wrote down from you Last year. For a 660' race.
Judging by the gearing you've chosen this isn't a race setup. I would advise changing those weights. Especially if it's an aggressive trail setup.

YA I ACTUALLY HAD GREAT LUCK WITH THE 8BU SET-UP I THREW IN MY 2002 SRX. AND I HAVE RUN THIS SLED UP TO ONE MILE AND STILL PULLING. NOW WE HAVE LOST THAT DISTANCE, SO WHAT I DID IS MADE SLIGHT GEARING CHANGE. YOUR VERY CLOSE ON YOUR SECOND CHOICE YOU POSTED ON RIVETS VS WHAT I USE. I NEED MY NOTES TO BE SHURE. THIS IS A NICE ALL AROUND SET-UP THAT HAS WORKED FOR ME BECAUSE I LIKE TO RACE MORE THAN TRAIL RIDE. BUT 98700 YOU MAKE A GOOD POINT, AS A EXAMPLE, 8DN-20 SET-UP MIGHT BE BETTER ALL AROUND. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I am aiming for a real agressive corner to corner trail/race sled, i know you cant have both but i am told that this will suffice. i am not looking for a top end sled just an agressive sled. I have read on some ty posts to use 4.5g in tip. does this sound right? 98700 says 4.5 in heel???
u should try to get a set of heel clicker :-)))

sorry i forgot to say that i am using a hauck orange spring
Did you buy that Orange from Mopar1???? If you did I want it!!!!!!!!!!!
That's going to give you a WAY to high engagement from trail riding, Like 5000-5500, ESPECIALLY with the engagement ramp on the 8BU-00's!
I would get a set of Heel clickers for corner to corner. The 8BU-00's has a light tip, and back shifting is very poor with them. So when you come to a corner and slow down, and go to pin it, The clutches are in high gear, Like a mustang....... Driving down the straight away in 5th, then you approach a corner. You keep the stang in 5th, But slow down 100KM.

When using a dual angle helix with an 8bu weight put the majority of the mass in the tip. The inner allready has a lot of weight built in to it plus it shifts out very aggressively. 4.5 in tip & start at .8 inner. When u put most of the weight in the inner hole it pounds out hard but falls off real quick on acceleration.
use a w-w-w yammie primary & green at 80 wrap & fine tune from there. 8200 at start climbing to 8500 rpm at full shift.

Those rivet setups I gave were for a racing setup. But I noticed the gearing and knew it wasn't a racing setup.
I'll buy that Orange Primary is you want to part!!!!!!!!! LMK!!!!!!!!!!!

i currently run the www 8dn 20 loaded set up that is listed many times over on ty and run that 50 /44 helix. i want more agressive than this set up, hence the change of heart. i know that h/c's are an option but i am cheaping out because of the rest of my budget has gone to bearings , hyfax pv's...ouch and cables all exhaust gaskets etc.. so that is the reason that i am going the ol' budget route this time around.... thanks for the advice guys keep the advice coming

its a 55/136.....if you wanted to know.
I used to run Dalton DPY 55.5 weights in my primary and then tried the 8BU-00's. For a trail setup I liked the Dalton better as they had better backshift. I also found my sled much harder on fuel with the 8BU's. Not trying to say they are a bad weight or anything but I found for trail riding the lighter weights to be better overall. Of course clutching is a bit of an art so depending on other factors ie Heilx, springs etc the 8BU's may work great for you.
When running 8bu,s you need a lot of secondary tension or sled will shift out too fast & have zero backshift. You can make 8bu,s feel real snorty on groomed trails with the proper secondary set up.

That could be my trouble. I found my sled would not pull proper RPM's. Maybe I was shifting out too fast. I wonder if this could also make the sled hard on fuel?? This is my setup.
8BU-00 weights with 4.5g in tip
y-w-y primary spring with 2 engagement springs
green yamaha secondary spring
53/47 Helix.
How much twist should I use on my secondary spring?

jaydaniels, i feel it was your steep helix that was giving you your backshift troubles. pretty steep angles to try and have good backshift.

DUDE, I THINK IT WAS 98700 THAT POSTED THE HAUCK ORANGE WILL WORK, BUT HOPE YOU LIKE A HIGH ENGAGEMENT. EASY 5000 OR BETTER. ANOTHER WEIGHT YOU MIGHT CONSIDER IS A 8BU-10. NOT AS AGGRESIVE AS THE 8BU-00. ALSO 89A-10. GREAT WEIGHTS FOR ALL AROUND USE. 3:16 (yammie tony)
