I am really starting to get frustrated with this thing. First, I got the sled out and tried to get her going. Nothing. I pulled and pulled, checked spark - yes, and pulled some more. Dumped about 1 ml fuel in each cylinder and she fired but would not run. I thought it could be a fuel problem with carbs. I've had the sled 3 years and never cleaned the carbs.

I spent an evening dissasembling and found the pilot jets had a bit of gunk in them so I cleaned everything with carb cleaner and blew everything out with air. I reassembled and she fired up but the idle was erratic. I was goin g to work on that when the next day I found three 1/8" washers and two 1/8" o rings on the garage floor while cleaning up. Since, I had just done the carbs I pulled them again and found that the washers and orings came from the fuel screws. I must have blown out the orings and washers from the fuel screw passages. I thought I had it.

I put everything back together and now it will run - but I have to have the choke on to get the idle down. If I put the choke off it idles but then steadily increases until about 3500 rpm - 3800 rpm then the track begins to engage and it goes forward the idle continues to go. Not wanting to run away I put the choke back on and it idles down after a bit.

The sled has stock main jets, and a bender can. The fuel screws are out 1 1/4 turns out Could this be the problem? I ready here that the stock is 1 1/8 turns out. Second. thing is I have had to disconnect and reconnect the thottle cable and the choke cable 3 times it is possible they are tootight or not tight enough. I have never really adjusted these so I'm not sure exactly how tight they should be set.

If anyone can help me diagnose this problem I would appreciate it. I am frustrated and we have gotten 6 inches in the past two days with more to come. Thank you in adavnce for any help you can give.

Also, make sure the throttle cable isn;t pulled out from the rubber thingy.... Mine had the same symptoms as yours, and if i would have traced the cables out, i wouldn;t have diasassembled the carbs a second time confirming stuff when it was the cable which was the issue.... I wasted an hour of my night. :2strokes:

check the throttle cable, make sure there is play in it at the carb.
Then adjust fuel screws out, that should bring the idle back down. ( assuming your idle adjuster is turned out)

You mentioned that you cleaned the main jets, did you also clean the pilot jets? Those have super tiny holes that will get plugged and cause exactly what you describe.

I haven't got back to working on it yet, but I put in new gas (93) and I did clean the pilots. Where should I set the fuel screws.... I've see in other posts 1 1/2 turns if you had issues with the idle coming down. I've never had problems with the idle not coming down. Thanks for all your help.

You guys are awesome!!! Thank for the help!! Tonight I went back to trying to fix my sled. I torn down to the carbs and adjusted the fuel screws to about 1 1/2 turns. And then took my time making sure all the cables had the correct amount of play. The throttle cable was definitely too tight. And the choke cable was a bit on the tight side as well. Got it all back together and a few pulls and she sputtered. I had started with the idle all the way out and gave it 1 turn and it started running. I let it run for about 15 min and then set the idle to about 1800 rpm. Since we're getting snow right now tomorrow I take it for a spin aroun the yard and see if I get any bog at full throttle. I wanted to say thank you to all you that helped me. Now I'm ready - Let's go ridin'
