Just a little curious about this....
I just put a new set of sliders/Hyfax, whatever you want to call 'em, in my 01 SRX. I was just curious if there is any way to lube them up to maybe make them last a little longer? I have heard of guys using dish soap on them for grass drags, and thats what kinda got me thinkin, what about normal winter riding? Its prolly not even worth worryin about but any thoughts? Thanks guys.

The snow pretty much is your only lube, Plus it will wear off whatever you put on. There is some that run Lube systems that apply lube to the sliders, it is primarily used for racing applications.

Yeah I figured that was the case. Just thought Id throw it out there. Thanks
They actually make a system to continously lube the slides?? Sounds intresting.... I would think that in a racing application after a few heats/passes they would just change them instead of adding the extra weight of a lube system... maybe I'm thinking the worng style of racing.... maybe for endurance?

I've had my original slides on since I bought my sled 5200 miles ago. I was told when you put a new pair on, run it hard on little snow amount to get them nice and warm (not to the point of melting), then let it sit in a snow bank to cool down. It worked for me and I know others that do this and it helps harden the hyfax up so they last longer. I know it's not a lube system as you were looking for, but just an idea.

You should come up to the UP and ride. I went out yesterday (on a buddies sled, mines still broke) and the trails were pretty good. Need more snow to build more base, but still pretty smooth.

with proper track deflection new oem slides will wear fast at first then stop.. snow is your lube.

Yeah, I couldnt agree more. I need to get my a$$ up there, its been a few years since I was that far north. Went to Marquette with some buddies a few years back and loved it. This year the plan is to go up to Munising between X-mas an new years and prolly spend new years up there. A friend of mine has family up there so that should be awesome - definately countin down the days till that. Too bad its not around the same time as a TY ride - eventually I need to make it to one of those..... one of these days.
Thanks again for the input guys!

Here's what I do...
Every 2 inches or so, I drill out a 1/4 inch hole all the way through the slider. This serves 2 purposes:
#1 - it allows snow to compress and pack in the holes. So, when you hit a patch of lake ice or extended road travel wher there isn't alot of snow, the snow in the holes will start to melt, and cool off the sliders until you hit snow again, and the holes will get re-packed
#2 - eliminates the guessing game about hjow much slider material you have left, cuz you can put the tip of a needle nose or something and "feel" how much slider material is left.
Also, add a extra wheel kit if you dont have one already, to eliminate excess wear near the curve on the skid

That hole idea seems pretty smart. Wish I woulda known that before I put them on, I woulda done that fo sho. Damn it Chilli!! Good idea though man - now I know for next time.
I dont think I'm gonna be able to get that extra wheel kit this season unfortunately - definately wanted to though. Come spring time I think I'm gonna go through my skid and replace/update all the stuff I didnt get to this fall. Mainly puttin my viper shocks in, a big wheel kit for the rear, an extra wheel kit for the front along with powder coatin some stuff to make it look all pretty... prolly gonna need to check all the berings again by that time too.
