A bad thing

I think I did one. Acroos the street from my house is a vacant, overgrown 51 acre field that was recently sold to a private school for developement next year. I have hunted it in the past and I know my neighbor hunts it now. Well, after weeks of being out of town for work I came home today and decided to fire up the SxR ant take it for a spin. The first time around the field, I noticed foot tracks in the field but didnt really think too much about it. The second time around, on another trail, I drove across a bait pile of corn so I looked up and saw my neighbor Blackpowder hunting the trail I was blasting down. I couldnt turn around so I had to just plow through. I could tell he was pissed. Neither one of us has "permission" to use the property. I thought muzzleloader season opened next week so I didnt think anyone would be there. I guess he could have shot me right of the seat (I passed him about 15 feet out) if he wanted to. I feel bad now for interferring with his hunt. Do I owe him an apology and a bottle of Scotch now or just blow it off?

PS he is a yamaha man.
 
I would re-locate if I were you.You are now prime target....lol..Hey you didn't know,so he must understand that..I hope.Next time you are riding there and your motor dies,look on the side of the bellypan and see if there is a bullet hole there.Good luck.

Ohh , in that case, apologize!! lol

I have a similar story.(well, kinda)
I was up north with the wife and kids. Decided to take my sled down to the lake and see how it was running. Went across the lake a couple of hundred yards and came across a plowed lane. Up and over both banks and off I go! Whoe, another lane!! what gives, is someone trying out there plowwing skills on the lake??
I look down the way and see 4 guys walking across the lake, so I putt down to see what was up. When I got close enough, all I could do is start laughing!
They had a sled with a case of beer on it, and each guy had a golf club and tennis ball with them.
They had plowed out a 9 hole course and where in the middle of playing a round!!
They said to come back the next day, they were having an outing! After a 80 mile ride, I rode down to the lake! There were atleast 50 people lined up at the first tee, ready to play.
 
See, this is why in WI that we do not open the trails up until AFTER basically all gun deer hunting is over.

But I think you owe the guy at least an apology and a "thanks for not shooting at me"
On the other hand, he did not have permission either.....

I say buy him a sixer of good beer and be done with it. You definitely don't owe him a 30 dollar bottle of scotch.
 
Muzzleloader season in Zone 3 (southern half of the L.P.) began on the 5th and runs til the 21st....I would say buy him some beers and apologize.
 
I would say not to apologize, based on the assumption (you were riding in the lower peninsula of Michigan) where "BAITING" is illegal. Sorry it may sound mean, but I take my hunting seriously (especially if people are violating rules). If you get along with the guy then I would apologize. Otherwise he should be more worried that you could turn him in on the illegal bait pile.

The baiting this is a tricky thing. If he was baiting, and it is illegal there, then , yeah, he is the one that has to worry. Not only was he trespassing, he was illegally hunting if there is no baiting allowed. Granted you could get a fine for trespassing, but the fine for trespassing, and hunting illegally is worse.

In light of this, I wouldn't even mention it at all, unless he does. At that point I bet he will tread lightly.
 
Although he lives next door to me (kind of), by the time I see or talk to him again it will probably be spring. He is baiting over there and thats not cool but for now i might just leave it at that and stop worrying that he might hate me. Whats one more enemy anyhow. Thanks all for listening.
 
I say RUN HIM OVER and take his weapon and SCREAM "they were BORN FREE and they have a right to LIVE FREE" and tell us what happens!!!
 
I doubt he is hunting there anymore. I imagine after seeing you see him, he isn't going to take the chance of the DNR paying him a visit while hunting. Evidentally he is not aware of the aerial surveys going on.
 
Well Ding apparently he thought the same thing. He came over yesterday and said it was OK, he didnt freak out because he didnt have any more access to the land than I did, so we're cool. How's the hunting (or watching, if thats what your into) in Howell? We have been seeing fewer deer this season but there is a lot going on on old 23 now and a lot of habitat has been dug up.
 
Been out twice in the UP (within a few hundred yards of where the big 15 point was shot). Seen 40+ does and a couple spikes once, and 15 does the next time. The first time I sat in the wrong spot (too close) because the deer did not go where they were supposed to go. The final straw was when a mature doe walked around the tree I was sitting against about 6 feet from me. Rather than let her figure out what I was, I yelled BOO!!!. She took off about 40 yards and then spent the next 30 minutes trying to pinpoint me which she never did. There were about 20 deer within 40 yards when this occured. I had to try real hard to keep from laughing out loud as the deer were all confused and kept milling around every which way almost running into each other over and over.

This never would have happened before the days of scent control. I don't use a suit, I simply wash myself and every garment and piece of equipment that I have with me. This time I sprayed "Dead Down Wind" scent eliminator on myself because I was in the truck for a few minutes to get closer to the hunting spot.

I see deer every night at my house, but haven't hunted there yet. I only have 10 acres, but it has 600+ apple trees on it.
