i have 2 cm of free play is that ok?? i have no bushing on the back of the clutch and 3 on the front. is that rite? i looked at the parts break down and saw a bushing on the back but im not shur if thats inside or out side or behind the secondary clutch.
 
2 cm is a lot , 2 mm is ok. I assume you are talking about lateral side play. If you are talking about any other play you may have a problem.

There is a bushing in the moveable sheave that can be replaced.

You should have a special washer behind the clutch that contacts the inner bearing race only, and shims on the outside that adjust lateral side play. Running the clutch without the washer can damage the bearing seal.

yea mm! its side play. i dont have the special washer on the inner berring race. ill look in my shop vac i might have sucked it up
 
I wouldn't run it without that washer. I have seen a number of bearing seals that were destroyed doing that. Once the seal is compromised, water gets in and destroys the bearing in time. You can run it, but just plan to change the bearing sometime soon.
 
i just got back from the dealer an he said i dont need one. i asked him to look it up and said theirs no reason to. so i gota go in my bin of washers and find a thin washer to fit.
and gave me more bs about my transfer rods. (my next post)

Randy can you show me the washer your talking about in a parts fiche. I dont recall ever seeing or pulling off a washer that goes between the jackshaft bearing and the sec. clutch.
 
Yep there is a washer that goes back there, i know i have it on my sled as well and here is the parts Fiche # 28...Most of the time they are stuck to the back of the secondary when you pull it off, then fall off when you get the clutch off the shaft.

Thanks Rich, I dont why but I thought in the part fiche those were the washers that go on after the secondary not before. Thats something Im diff. looking into tonight. Anyone know why theres 3 different part#'s for those washers? Thickness differences?
 
#24 has 2 diffrent thicknes washers. but i dont have a single one for the rear of the clutch. i put a feeler in the rear of the clutch and it dosnt hit the plastic sheild on the bering, it hits on the inside sleve of the bering. ????????? duno what
 
this is # 25 on that list of parts. what does this mean? one is one side, the other is the other side.

If you look down the center of your secondary you will see the grooves that lock in to the grooves on the jackshaft. Usually there is a little grease on the shaft and that's all you see on the spacer is the contact points it has with those grooves and the greese getting smeared on there. Not big deal with that yours is fine.
 
Just the way it was tightened up last time. It is just a spacing collar to allow the secondary to have a small amount of lateral play. It should be fine.

If you are sure that the secondary cannot contact the bearing shield, but only contacts the inner race, then you should be fine. The ones I have seen may have been run that way a long time, and wore a recess in the secondary, I can't remember for sure. In any case I would keep an eye on it if you run it that way. The secondary and the inner bearing spin together, so it would only be wear from sliding up against it.
