HELLO FRIENDS!!!!

have a 01 srx since new. no problems till now( atleast i could figure out) looked through the 18 pages and no posts like it...

sled ran great last year stored it for summer and went to restart it and nothing. no light or spark. pulled the kill switch and key and nothing. brought it to the shop in chicago (goodwin performance) a known performance and clutch shop and they have had it for 1.5 months and nothing. everything tests good currents in electrical but no spark. says they took another srx stator put it in ran for 10 min then shut it off and would not restart. both stators are still good. run fine in the other sled. said they checked cdi box and coils and nothing. all still has correct current or voltage in the wires??????????

anyone have any ideas or if this is possible. said they called yami 2 weeks ago (before thanksgiving) and they have not responded. tech line i guess. anyone know what i could do. sled is still up there but they are stumped to. willing to try anything..

THANKS IN ADVANCE :2strokes:

rub threw under the motor ? in harness ...good place to look first ...would think they looked there first ..but mabe not

as ding said, pull the harness out and inspect under the engine for rub thru, the reason it most likely ran then quit is they moved the wires replacing the stator, then when its vibrating from running it contacts the frame grounding it out again. this is a very, very common problem on these sleds.

THANKS

told them to check it out....

had a problem with it already and what happens is the headlight and all controls (mph and rpms) are dead...but sled always started. would shut off and restart a few times and eventually it would work.

under the motor the harness wiring what goes under there. is that the main wiring or just headlight and hood controls.

that was caused from the load control relay sticking, they would stick with high moisture and take a few seconds before they will kick the power on to the lights, guages, etc. yamaha designed the system so all the power goes to starting the sled then the load control relay applies the load after the engine is up to idle speed. A very simple cure for the sticking relay is to simply remove them lay them on a good warm heat register in your house for a solid 24hrs and it will dry the moisture out of them and they dont stick.

yep, you can see the harness rubbed right thru there under the engine from that pic.....LOL kidding!

on the harness, if its not rubbed thru it most certainly will be before long, they all do it sooner then later and its always in the worst possible place so its best to fix it now. You just unhook the harness up by hood hinge, bend over all the little fold over clamps under pipes, tie on a string or small rope to endso you can pull it back thru later.

Next,(this is also alot easier with the airbox and carbs out of the way) over by the recoil youll see the harness come up behind engine, pull the harness back up and out towards back of sled, about 3 feet, find your chaffed wires and tape them individually, tape the whole harness, then place harness in plastic automotive convolute tubing, reinstall, the problem will never ever happen again no matter how many miles you put on the sled.
