Heard all the rage about this track so I picked one up for my 121" Viper. As long as the skid and jackshaft are coming out, would it be advantageous to go with 8t extroverts or leave stock drivers. At this time I am not planning on studding the track. Would it be a good idea to drop to a 21t gear or just run the stock set up. This sled finds quite a bit of powder and back country.

Anyone have the 1.352" cobra in their Vipers? I know lots of guys like them, but haven't heard much on the vipers.

Thanks

I just bought one. Waiting for the semester to end then go home and put it on. I think it'll be a great track. I've heard nothing but great things about it's performance. I can't wait to try it.

I would run 8T extros myself, but you can get away without changing drivers if you notch the track or remove the protectors. There will be some rubbing, but it will wear in. On a 121 I would definitely go down 1 gear and possibly 2 on top. If you go with 8T drivers you can keep the same gears.

I would expect that sled with a 121 to trench real easy with that track. You will have to roll into the throttle and baby it a bit. Get wider skis up front or it will tends to plow too. A longer track really changes that sled off-trail.

I just got mine together this past weekend with the new cobra track. I have fresh rings in the sled and put only about 7 miles on it yesterday. The snow conditions weren't real good in southern MN quite yet ,so I just rode it through the ditches and through our woods. I have the no protectors in mine and it didn't rub so far. I had to tighten it up right away because it was ratcheting quite a bit at first. I have stock drivers and stock gearing. I did notice my R's dropped a bit from the last time I rode it. I was taching at 8300 and then it would climb to 8500. I know mine runs best when it tachs to 8500 then climbs to 8700. I will have to give it some time after the rings break in to make any judgements. The snow pack was so minimal I could not really tell if the hookup was very good. I know my Dad's Viper hooked better yesterday because of the low snow with his Predator track. I do plan on buying Slydog skis. I am not sure if I should get Powderhounds or just the trail ski. How are the Powderhounds in the trails? I know they are great for better floatation but I am not sure how they corner. I assume they have less of a keel than the trail models. As for gearing, I did try going down when my Viper was fairily new and I had the predator track on it. In testing against my Dad's Viper I did worse, so I went back to stock. Now maybe with this taller lug, going down a tooth might work better .....who knows until I try I guess.

PS: other notes-

I have run Amsoil Interceptor in this sled pretty much right after it was broke in. I had "very" dirty powervalves and the PTO side was stuck tight. I had alot of buildup on them too. My buddy who has the old '98 SRX600 with 12,000 miles on it did a total rebuild this summer (rings, bearings, etc.) and said his looked fantastic when he tore it apart........he has always run Yamalube. Yesterday I sucked my tank dry and converted it back to Yamalube. Why pay more per gallon and get these results?? Being Yamalube is a blend I felt better breaking in new rings with that anyways.

Sounds like jholden rides more off-trail than on-trail. Setups will differ if this is the case.

Thanks guys. I think I am going to install 8T extroverts just in case I stud in the future. Then I can leave stock gearing. I am looking forward to getting home from my work trip in Los Angeles and get to work on this. I got the track just before I left and it looks like it is going to be awesome.

Thanks again.
