Need help with putting a 2000 MM tunnet extension on my 98 SRX

Well heres my project. I picked up a 151 track and the tunnel extension from a 2000 MM. I dont have the rear cooler or the rear bumper and the rear hose covers. My sled is a MSRX. I want to put the extension on it,but with out the hose covers I'm not sure how far back to put the tunnel extension. Can some one measure there covers for me. That would get me in the ball park. i need to get these parts ASAP. It might just snow one of these days. Thanks.

I can't help with the measurments because my sled is 100 miles away... BUT I did put a 151" on my MSRX. I ran into issues with the rear cooler as the MSRX uses larger diameter hoses than the MM cooler. I wanted to run the MM cooler because it was smaller and fit better in the new extension but wound up being too much work. Thats really all the help I can be right now, but let me know if you have any other questions!

I'll throw a couple up tomorrow. Not sure if I have any good ones of the tunnel extension though. You better get that thing put together! The whole state is getting snow this weekend.
 
If I cant get the 00 tunnel extention on I do have a 99 tunnel extension I could try until I gather all the parts for the 00 extension. I have the rear cooler from the 99 also. I saw a picture of a 98 MM on hartman's website.
 
wont that tunnel extension line up with the existing holes on the msrx? the msrx was basically a 121 tunnel with an extension, as was the 99 and 00 mm. the 00 being slightly longer for the 141? trying to follow along here, but if your doing a 151, i think your stock style extensions are going to come up short. as for the cooler issue, you can use a reducing bushing for the hoses. i may hace a few left, or wahl bros has them. as for the hose covers, they are not necessary to ride, just gives a cleaner look and a little protection. be prepared to custom fit your new ones, if i recall, they are not a diect bolt on. my mm's are in the trailer and i will be seeing them this weekend. i will take some measures and maybe a pic for you. good luck on your project.
 
Ok. The 00 extension will fit inside the stock msrx extension. I'm not sure it will fit on the tunnel by it self though. I will be out there in the cold this week end working on it. I need it ready by Christmas.
 
Extension

Running a 141 extension with a 151 will hit the back edge where the flap rivets to. You will be pulling your flap out of the tunnel all day if you run one. I ran with a longer extension and kept the MSRX rear heat exchanger, the extra cooling outweighs the weight saving. I also moved my skid back 4", just off the bulkhead plate and ran into some issues of spider cracking around the front suspension holes. Needs reinforcing to do that . I had a MSRX and hated it. Finally had to Drop & Roll it with 141 rails to make it work, then fought the dreaded powder bog.
 
Well. I moved it back to run the 144. Yes the flap gets stuck with it. I have a 99 MM extension and a 00 extension. Since I have the parts for the 99 I more likely to use it for now. Using the MSRX or the MM cooler. Whats the powder bog? I'm not sure I have experienced that.
 
i can measure the extension on my 151 tonight, I think it is around 15" exposed - I modified the stock SRX hose covers and eliminated the rear cooler and installed a cross over tube kit from Tom Hartman. I also went with a Viper aluminum bumper. Works just fine.

hose covers measured about 23" long, apprx 19" to the cutout for the rear ht exchanger or crossover, measuring from the front. hope this helps. x2 on the flap suck. i thought i had room on the 151 viper project, but no. it makes a cool sound, kinda like when you put playing cards in the spokes with clothespins as a kid.

i bought the tunnel extension and cross tube all as one kit. I don't remember the price, but if you go to Hartman's website, they have a downloadable catalog. The crossover tube is simply copper pipe with elbows soldered on each end.
 
Ok. I need some 3.5 rail extensions also. I was wondering if I should change the gearing since I have it apart? I have 21/39 gears.
 
i am running 21/42 gears an am very happy. No bog, hell of a hole shot. You lose some top end, but with a 151" who cares. It may be personal preference, but i tried to keep my overall ratio around 2.25:1 which is roughly where i am at with the 8t drivers. Mountain Performance has a good chart showing gear/driver combo ratios. Also, i recommend the Tracks USA extensions. They are a complete extension that are molded for longer hyfax and they fit perfect on my rails
 
141" M7 skid set back for a 151" track , Hartman tunnel extension modded to fit SRX rear heat exchanger.
