25 POUNDS LIGHTER ? I DON,T KNOW IF GOING FROM 15 WIDE TO 13 WIDE CHAIN AND GEARS, THE RARE EARTH INGINTION, AND LIGHTER PISTONS WERE 25 POUNDS WORTH. SRX,s SUPPOSELY WERE 552. ONLY WAY KNOW FOR SHURE IS TO WEIGHT ONE UP. YAMAHA FOR SOME REASON NEVER HAS THEIR WEIGHT FIGURES RIGHT. I REMEMBER THEY SAID THE VMAX 4 IS 578. THAT WAS THE HEAVIEST SNOWMOBILE EVER MADE. lol. 3:16 (yammie tony)

yamaha service manual lists it at 545 dry,but like tony said i don't think the things he listed plus the lighter brake rotor would add up to a 25 pound loss.

GOOD POINT 9801srx. AND THE LITE BRAKE ROTOR DID NOT COME OUT UNTIL 2001. 3:16 (yammie tony)

weighed my trail '98 835 srx on longacre digital scales. one pad under track & one under each ski: 555#. that was full oil, anti freeze ( w/ extra tunnel heat exchangers ), 3 gal gas, bender pipes, 1" predator, reverse, 240 megabites w/ alum. backers.
rx1 dry & no studs was 602#.
bender 800 sxr w/ extra tunnel cooling, reverse, 1" predator, 192 megabites & alum backers, full fluids, 3 gal. gas: 535#.

BEST WAY TO MEASURE WEIGHT IS HOW YOUR BACK FEELS WHEN YOUR DONE. YOU SHOULD TRY MOVING TOO VMAX4,s AROUND YOUR GARAGE. TELL YA SRX,s WERE NO LITE WEIGHTS EITHER. SLEDS THAT WERE BIG TIME LITE WERE THE OLD SRX,s. HELL I THROW MY 79 AND 80 SRX AROUND LIKE THEY WERE A FEATHER. ALTHOUGH ANYTHINGS A FEATHER COMPARED TO A VMAX 4. 3:16 (yammie tony)

DUDE, NO ITS NOT A MYTH. EVERY YEAR YAMAHA DID TRY TO TAKE WEIGHT OUT OF THESE SLEDS, JUST NOT 25 POUNDS WORTH BETWEEN 98 AND 02. 3:16 (yammie tony)hanker37 said:so from how it sounds its a myth!thanks for the info!

I have been picking away at lightening my 2002 SRX since I got it 3 years ago.
I just put the sled back together after an off season rebuild. The sled is absolutely dry of all fluids right now so I decided to weigh it. I used 3 fairly good quality bathroom scales: one under the centre of each ski and one mid track.
Here's the results:
left ski weight:........ 143 lbs
right ski weight:....... 152lbs
centre track weight:..196lbs
----------------------------
Total:....................491lbs Dry Weight
Thats a 144" with reverse!!!
I am absolutely ecstatic!!!! I never thought I would get in under 500 lbs DRY

Hey Bob can you list everything you changed that has contributed to the major weight loss? Obviously I see the seat, wheels and trailing arms. Just wondering what else you did to get it down that low AND added reverse and stretched it to 144. nice job! I wish I could take yours for a rip to see how wthe seat and the raised bars feel...

I think the first year T-cat came pretty close. At least it should have based on trying to getting it unstuck.

Its been a steady weight reduction program since I got this sled used a few years back, with a few steps backwards like when I went to the 144".
These weights are off my 3 bathroom scales[LOL!} they all read basically the same so all weights are as accurate as I am able to provide!!
Here's some of what I've done..at least the stuff I have notes on.
Suspension:[Viper shocked 144" with xtra wheels]
-chrome moly front "H" arm..........................................-6 lbs
-chrome molly suspension components............................-5 lbs
-titanium X shafts......................................................-2 lbs
-drilled + light weight "stock placement wheels"...............-2 lbs
------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Suspension Weight Reduction.............................................-15lbs
[suspension now weighs 69lbs with wheels]
Chassis :[tunnel extended for 144"]
-light weight ski spindles.............................................-2 lbs
-light weight radius rods.............................................-2 lbs
-installed MP trailing Arms...........................................-4 lbs
-removed stud protectors...........................................-2 lbs
-installed Boss seat....................................................-8 lbs
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Chassis weight reduction................................................. -18 lbs
Drive Train:[Reverse chaincase Team Tied Secondary]
-lite weight brake rotor............................................... - 2 lbs
-titanium jackshaft 1/4" keyed for Cat/Polaris secondary... - 1 lbs
-titanium drive shaft with extroverts.............................. - 3 lbs
-loss from drilling 144" full clip 1 1/4" ripsaw..................... - 1 lbs
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Drive Train weight reduction............................................. - 7 lbs
Exhaust/ Engine:
-Aaen tripple cermamicoated pipes................................. - 20 lbs
-Viper Crankshaft........................................................ - 2lbs
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Exhaust/Engine weight reduction....................................... - 22 lbs
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total Sled weight reduction..................................................... -62 lbs
Sled DRY Weight is now 491 lbs + can be further reduced 11lbs by removing the extra suspension wheels

May I ask how much it cost to loose 62 lbs? Just wondering if Jenny Craig for a year is cheaper.
