Viper needs some power

I have been reading different post and visited the TY Tech site. Now I need some input. I would like to clutch my 02', play with the exhaust (not to loud, want to keep the peace with the white hairs!) and tweak the suspension, all for 100 bucks lol!
I want to keep this reliable, I ride the trails mostly but like to run the lakes here and there. I saw a post for drilling the can as well as installing SRX triple pipes...cool? Also there was a few different ideas for clutching. One guy recomended redoing the rings on the pistons if I clutch it (due to the fact there is 8200 miles on the girl). As far as suspension, I have to take it out to weld a broken joint, so should I do anything with it, or work with what I have.
I guess sky's the limit, but I would like a little more on a decent budget.
Any info will be great.
Thanks

I would tear the top end down and measure everything. Replace the rings at a minimum and pistons and bearing cages if you can swing it. Check your crank bearings and crank run out while you have it apart.

I then would make sure the exhaust valves are clean, adjusted, and working properly first. That is free unless you need to replace parts.

The suspension likely needs a rebuild, but that will cost a bit for bearings. You can use the tech pages posted by betheviper to tighten it up. You may choose to get new bushings. I would read btv's pages and make your own judgment.

As far as clutching it only makes sense if you are creating extra power that you can use. Are you over-revving at all?

The Green spring and extra weight is a very cheap option that usually provides good benefit.

For exhaust, no more power from drilling the can, just more noise.

Good luck for trying to do all that for a 100 bucks but as for clutching try a 53/43 helix and green spring and the rest of the stuff that ding said in the above post, putting a can will not give you any extra hp or gutting your original can your best bet is to leave the original one on they do actually work better.

I was just kidding about the 100 bucks! Wouldn't be nice though? I have replaced the bearings and slides on the suspension when I put a new track on it. Should I upgrade the shocks? I'll check the tech tips by "btv". I was also told you can add reed spacers, anyone of you guys done this? Now if I open this block, am I going to screw around with reliability, it really has been a good sled considering the miles on it.

The Boss just got a new 800 MXZ, can't have him dust that bad or I'll never hear the end of it. Bad enough I have to work for him.....LOL!
thanks for the input.

Have you heard of anyone using SRX triple pipes on the Viper, if so, do you have to change the jetting as you would for aftermarket pipes?

I would try to find a set of aftermarket triples made for the Viper. The SLP pipes seem to be the safest, but there are others out there like CPR and Bender that are ok if tuned properly. That is by far the best bang for the buck in getting more performance out of a Viper. You can add a real 25+ hp easy with triple pipes. Just be sure to follow the tuning advice, as there is a mid-range change needed.

I would talk with mrviper700 (Don) on here. He knows that engine very well and can get a lot of reliable power out of it.

I would also start searching on here as there is tons of information on this. I know of several Vipers with triple pipes that have been very reliable.

SRX pipes are a challenge to fit and tune. There are old posts on here of guys who have mixed engine parts, and done chassis and hood modifications to fit SRX pipes, but it is quite involved.

If you run triples you should either do a head mod or by an aftermarket set of heads/head. I ran the Speedwerx head on mine one season with CPR triples. I ended up going back to stock. If you go this rout, you better be committed to watching your temps, piston wash, etc. As said ,there are people who have had good luck, but this machine is by no means as easy to pipe as the 700 SX red head motor. Gas mileage will go WAY down too. Like half. If you want a spare head, I have one that would need the modding done but will sell cheap. Then you could keep your old head for selling the sled in the future.

So you can drill the can on a Viper? I didn't think you could, because the outlet(inner tube) is curved.
