Is this the only thing we can count on as the problem? i will pull the harness and tape it all up nice if its rubbed through or not, for good reassurance.
from what i get outta mrvipers post, it says nothing about removing pipes, just airbox and carbs???

Took out the airbox and carbs today, and found that the wire has already been taped and convolute tubing was in there already.... that rules out that being the problem.

Mine acted funny on start up and then it did it one night driving 10 minutes later NO LIGHTS!!!! Relay went bad. Got home and jumped it with a 20a fuse and ordered the overpriced relay. When I put that in I also pulled the harness with the carbs off and exhaust off. It had a couple nicks but my real issue was the relay. Also I rerouted my wiring on the left side of the motor between the clutch and motor...not below!!! Also covered with plastic conduit. Bet the new owner doesn't have this issue again!

Thanks, i'll see if it happens again or if was just a loose connection of some type, check wires when i was under there, all is good, previous owner did a real good job with taping and tubing it.

Which is the lighting relay? Once last year I had my lights stay off for 10 minutes when it was cold out. I better replace relay this year.

Sounds like your stator, more and more common. do a search for viper stator

If its real cold out water will freeze in the relay causing the lights to stay off until it gets warm..... mine did it when i drove it off the trailer after hauling it in a 0 degree night. only did it for like 30 seconds.
