Hey all, looking for some advice on what may be wrong with my sled. Took the motor out to clean the engine bay up a bit and while I was at it I cleaned the carbs. Got everything reinstalled and now the thing seems to be running pig rich and backfiring a lot. Didnt do this before i took it apart, any ideas?

Make sure the choke cable is adjusted properly. If you have it too short the choke will still be on when you think it is off. Also make sure the TORS is not acting up. HOpe this helps.

i'll check TORS and choke, I noticed when I had the carbs out that the choke mechanism was supper stiff so I broke it loose with WD40 and got it working well again...maybe something happened there. Didnt actually take the carbs apart when I cleaned them. they were very clean to begin with

yes back firing out the exhaust... kind of like its loading up with unburnt fuel and then it ignites in the exhaust system

I've had this happen before. Used to blow the pipe off and away from the Y-pipe. I forget what it was. I think this was right before the stator went bad if I remember right. It was a few years ago.

back step your operation, what did you do different, anything done to the
carbs,,,electrical up to par(wires,boots etc.)

only thing disconnected thats electrical are the plugs to the hood. Is it possible for something to have happened with the carbs just from handeling them? i was as careful as possible but who knows. Hope it isnt the stator, how hard is it to change them on these things?

I just had the same problem on my sled, #1 carb pilot jet was plugged.
Me to my son thats why i posted lol If the choke sticks even slightly there will be no power and will die trying to idle. But no backfire.Easy to try.The carbs are not clean unless the pilots are removed and inspected.

alright i'll do that also then. Very cold right now :o| I mean like below zero Fahrenheit so I wont be touching it until it warms back to at least 15

Hi

It was mentioned earlier about the cable adjustment. If the cables are not adjusted properly the T.O.R.S. will be activated on idle. You can eliminate this by unplugging the two wires coming from rhe carb and plug the two wires coming from the wiring harness into themselves. This will eliminate the T.O.R.S. and the sled will idle properly if this is the problem.

I highly doubt the cables are properly adjusted since I didnt mark them nor do I remember where they were when I took it apart. Cant run it until I get a new seal for the pipe/can connection. Thanks for all the info guys! I'll update when I figure it out
