Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and seem to like it alot already,ok so heres my problem,I'm not a no it all when it comes to sleds..I have a 98 SRX700,its not all stock, has AAEN pipes,AAEN roller action sed. clutch, I'm not sure what all has been done to the primary clutch....heres my problem..the primary spring is BROKE,it is ORANGE in color,I need a new one but have no way of knowing what brand it is? Anyone have any ideas?
thanks

More than one manufacturer uses an orange spring. If everything is AAEN, Then I would assume the spring is an AAEN also.

Orange Primary Springs
-Hauck Orange-55-136
-Bender Orange-55-135-with shim
-Aaen- I don't see a orange spring listed for a Yamaha but they have one listed for a Polaris (the polaris spring is not what you want)

It is probably a Hauck Orange but I would phone Aaen just to make sure.

Don't really know anything about it,I bought this sled last year, all the goodys were allready on it.
To be honest I just rode the thing, never paid any attention to the engagement?

5000 rpm...

Tony, my buddy broke his bender orange spring, and replaced it with a hauck orange spring that i bought from a ty member here, engagement now is around 5000 rpm as opposed to the 4000+- with the shimed bender spring, its a 99 srx. so 5000 is about right? hes got a bender seconday.

I hope your buddy took the 8mm shim out, Bender orange spring is a pre-98 spring(short) the Hauck is a longer spring. They are both 55kg preload so they should engage at near the same rpm.

ok guys heres the measurment from my old spring...its .211" thick..3 1/2 " long and about 2.350" dia.
now can anyone tell me what brand it is?

well we took out the shim and the old broken spring, and put a hauck spring in there. engaging higher, did not do a thing with the clutches otherwise.

I would think if you put a long spring in place of a short spring the engagaement rpm will definatly not be the same, even if they have the same initial preload.you are now putting a long spring in the same space as where a short spring was or vice versa,a short spring in the same space as a long spring. gotta think of the two spring side by side. obviously the longer spring is going to have more initial pre load. You get my point? so you have to be careful when comparing long and short cover springs. if you use a short spring with a long spring cover the preloads will not be the same. Hope you understand what im trying to say. Besides if YAMMIEGOD says 5000rpm i beleive it to be 5000 rpm. He has alot of experience. And i personally have never been steered wrong by him.

Preload is measured at different lengths for long and short cover springs,Right? This is just what is going on in my head, hope i am right in the way i am thinking. If i am not i appologize for the wrong info. Can someone verify what i am saying,im beggining to doubt myself. LOL

did you just buy the sled w/a broken spring or have you owned it for awile and suddenly discover the broken spring if so what was the engagement rpm before the spring broke? 4000 4500 5000 ? give these guys on here all the details and they will take care of you!!

i will measure my hauck orange spring tomorrow and let you know if your measurements jive w/my measurements. then you will have a better thought of the spring you have.
