You are the one that asked the question about what gains and now you are saying "Why do it". Well a well bored silencer can yeild about 3 to 5 hp. Along with head gasket mod, reed mod, clutching, can add around 10hp to your sled and still in stock form. You will see a big difference in SPL but a better sound with grunt.
If you dont like the mod and dont agree with the mod then dont ask about it.
I am just saying most people do not see any inprovement, so why do it. I do agree with head mods and clutching, but just to have a louder sled, why? Now you say a 3 to 5 hp gain, has this been proven on a dyno? As I read on most of the posting little to no improvment to be seen just by boring the silencer. Al

I hear what you are saying but then why do so many people put cans on their sleds....to make it sound better. do they gain power...most of them dont.
I think it was mountain performance that claimed up to 5 hp...dont know if they dynoed that....the boring of the silencer would be part of all the mods I mentioned in my post above...part of the cheap HP package....drilled silencer, reed mod, head gasket mod, jetting and clutching for these mods....will the driver notice a difference...OH YA!!!!! as for louder 1 to 2db SPL does not make it much louder but the sound is better.

I finally tried my bored can and its a little louder mainly at idle or if your up next to something you can hear it echoing of stuff more.Once your under way there is little to no difference in noise maybe a slight power increase and it sounds a little meaner when rolling on the throttle.I am not sure if I'm going to keep it on, it is a bit annoying when its idling on any kind of a hard surface.

this mod will make your sled sound better and it will remain stock appearing witch should mean no tickets from the law if you dont like louder sleds dont do it

I've got a 97sx with the above mentined can mod along with a layer of head gasket removed, modified primary clutching, and a Mammimum roller secondary. This sled will out run my Viper. Very impressive and it has over 7500 miles on it. I put new pistons in at about 6000 miles. My son rides it now. Not a bad first sled. My can was done by the Maxximum performance. I believe I could feel the difference. I also have a stock can which I will put on in the next week or so and ride it. I will report back if I feel any difference.

Will this mod work on a 99 Vmax 500? Its in the proaction chassis....
i do not think it will work on a 500. i went with a mbrp trail can on the one i had. the good news is that the reed notch does work on a 500.

Damn, so what cans will work on a 500? I do not like my stock can...thanks
any of the aftermarket twin cans will work. i did like the mbrp trail can i had on mine. had to mod the mouting bracket a bit but worked well.
