New skis on old selds?

Has anyone tired putting the newer Yamaha mountain (with the made in plastic saddles) skis on a pogo sled? I know the RX1 skis with the aluminum saddles can be made to work, but I would like a ski wider then 5".

no the sadless skis will not work on a pogo. my uncle and i tried to put a set of takeoff apex mountain skis on a vk540III that had steel skis. the problem is that the holes are not high enough to get the bolt through for the tss. we had it all ground out pretty too to clear the scisors when we found this out. your best bet for a stock ski is the vk540III skis after (i want to say) 2002. you can save a few bucks on the hardware by buying a set of takeoff saddless for all the hardware.

How wide are the VK540III skis?
 
USI will sell you skis and mounts, try Richmotorsports ....

C&A is a brand of ski and I think B.A. means "bad a**".
 
i was not there when he put them on. i do know they are a bit wider than the stock vk steel skis. i will take a look at yamaha's site and see if i can find some dimensions for you.

2006 Attak saddless ski's on my 89 exciter. Slight modifications they fit great.

From the 1990 Exciter tread in Working Log forum.

The front Struts from the 1994-96 Vmax 5-600cc sleds will give you ~2" more travel ! You need the longer shock covers, springs and aluminum knuckles along with the struts. You can find them fairly reasonable on E-bay, any parts forum or salvage yards ! I bought a set of brand new(rare) Genuine Yamaha GYT Kit struts off of E-bay that were an upgrade for the Vmax 5-600 sleds with adjustable dampening & rebound and slightly longer travel for $75.00 ! Yamaha part # SMA-8CA91-10-00

the ones on mine are the adjustables from a 96 Vmax xt. they supposidly have the GYT inserts in them, although i'm not sure if you could get the GYT in the adjustables....

As I have mentioned the GYT have adjustable compression and rebound on top and bottom of the strut cartridge ( like Motocross bikes) the 96 XT's only have the adjustable spring preload which is on top under the rubber caps. I tried to use the GYT struts with the 96 XT's adjustable strut holders but, they would not fit and I could not see a way to adapt them.

old skis on pogo

I just had a set of GYTR skis modified for an Ovation. I milled the square plate from the saddles and then welded in a flat piece of aluminum with supports to position for the stock rubber. I had to use some stainless washers to shimm out the mount. I haven't tried it in the snow yet but I've got them installed and everything looks good so far.

cannot get at that sled untill newyears but i did find the yamaha usa part# for the bottoms. parts # is 8ac23711-00-00

if your dealer has a vk540III out on the floor that is the ski.
