hey guys.....wat do u think my 1997 SX 700 with 5600 miles could do for a top speed.
-bender can
-vforce reeds
-racing helix
-1 and 1/8 nch lugs
-SXR long travel rear suspension...stock front susp.
-tall windshield
-SXR skis (not metal HEHE)
-no studs
-im sure my dad has done a few other tweaks..... of course he has expertly jetted it to run perfectly
i have gotten it up to 110mph on speedo last year....but i had metal skis... u guys think ill gain any top end with plastic skis???

On radar around 105.
110 is pretty good I don't think the new skis would make it change so much that you can feel it or see it....and some people would say that cans, usually make you slower, not sure on this I've always ran pipes on mine.

What is a racing helix???? Single piped red head with a big track and really no performance mods may get you 100mph real speed not the speedo.
I agree ,with no studs, 110 on speedo would be a feat with long travel and a bigger track!yamyrider said:What is a racing helix???? Single piped red head with a big track and really no performance mods may get you 100mph real speed not the speedo.

Go back on the bike trail with a gps and see what you run.
slayer, did'nt say it could'nt be done, just that it would be a feat to do. It does not surprise me ,those motors are very strong....I've had my sx 's speedo buried, was going so fast the windshield collapsed. (true) Of course I have pipes and a few minor mods.....setup right you should be able to hang with most 800's. And in the tight & twisties.........uncatchable!!!

with that track, no studs & tall winshield you'd be real lucky to get 100 mph.

the track and the big suspension is hurting you and killing top end....see the pattern of people saying 110mph ..no way...only on the speedo and not real speed.
They are great sleds and have alot of potential for good speeds.

I think you should save it all up for the lakes not a bike trail. But thats just me RIDE SAVE YOUNG DUDE.
My 97 700sx with viper susp. ,viper fixed sheaved on the primary.dual cut helix (can't remember the cut) with 8300 km (5200 miles) will show 180 kmh (111mph) on the dream-o-meter out on the flat groomed trails and lakes. The track is a 1 inch finger track (no studs)and plastic srx skis. The rest is stock.

I second that. Speed on trails is asking for trouble. I have seen too many people drifting on the other side of the trail in a corner or starightaway. I had a guy clip my ski and then he wiped out afterwords, I was hugging the edge of the trail actually in the deep stuff halfway when he did it. I seen him coming and noticed he wasn't holding his line. I made sure he was OK then let him know what a stupid A?S he was and then told him to slow the hell down but in not such a nice manner. He got in my face then his friend told him the same thing I did. Friend apoligized to me and we went our ways.

Yep,i had a kid about his age blow a corner and total my new 04 viper s.He was going to fast and couldnt stay on his side in the corner, hit me head on at about 40 mph.I was lucky but my sled was trashed, tore the left side suspension right off and wrinkled my tunnel up.

guys the trail is PERFECTLY straight for miles..... its also very flat.... u can see for a heck of a long ways.... and the lakes around here are so full of hard drifts and ice chunks its unsafe to go over 70mph in most spots
I topped my 99 SX out at 103 on GPS. This was on a long road in MN. After the long run I checked on GPS to see what was max speed ever achieved. The speedo was reading somewhere around 115 not sure exactly, wasn't watching gauge to much. Be carefull at these type of speeds, everything is coming at you very very quickly.

And that is what reaction I would expect from a friend.
I would have chewed his ear off as well.
I'm glad to hear his buddy told him he was an *** and apologized.
Seriously, keep the top end runs to a lake, or a track. The trail is no place for this, unless it is a trail on a lake
