hey

i have a ceramic coated bender 4x4 pipe on the way and a SLP lightweight silencer which is also ceramic coated. the silencer adds 4 hp and so does the pipe. so a total of 8 HP maybe 10HP from having the bender ceramix coated. i was just wondering if there are any guys out there that has this type of silencer on there viper. its the SLP ligtweight silencer for the single pipe exhaust system. i was woundering how loud are these can's over the stock can. it says its at stock decibles. anyone have any feedback about this can? or any videos of this silencer?

thanks

I have the can sounds good not loud. However everyone will say the pipe loses power not sure about when you combine it with the 4x4 pipe though.

we found the problem with the viper can's with my brothers. what happens is the can cools off too much on back to back wot lake runs. when it is doing this, the top rpms drop 500rpms. take it for a short run in the trail and get the can hot again back to proper top rpms. we wrapped his mbrp can with 2 layers of header wrap we had laying around and went and tested it. with the wrap the can stays at tempurature and rpms stay the same all the time.

the ceramic coating should do the same thing and it looks better as well.

You are kidding aren't you? You better show me the dyno chart on this one if you think you are going to gain 8HP. I would be willing to bet you may lose a few HP. Lose weight....YES.........lose HP.....YES!!! Is the silencer quiet........YES......been there done it. I'm not trying to be a jerk..just telling you the facts.

PS: try running the Bender pipe into the stock silencer. This supposedly works pretty good. I know for a fact the SLP can loses power and I can't imagine it's going to magically gain power when used with a pipe they did not develop.

And guess what that rpm drop means?? Loss of HP......the engine is making less power and all of the sudden you have too much clutch wt. for the power that the engine is NOW putting out. I rest my case.

wow it says the bender 4x4 gains 4 hp and loses 4 lbs. and the silencer gains 4 hp. so im gettin about 8 hp. why would i lose more hp after spendin almost $800?

i have the bender 4x4 pipe and the slp silencer....sounds great....is louder than stock. i never rode my sled stock i did the exhaust and clutch kit right after i got it...but i like it and it still rips!!!

I have one of those cans sitting in the corner...put the stock can back on and gained 4 mph...not HP.

Anybody want to buy a can ?? :hide:

yes they loose power on the lake and just make noise, but I may be wrong but he wont be lake running his sled, so i would say its a good buy, just for the weight savings alone.

Well I can't comment on the Bender pipe. I would have liked to have tried one but can't justify the $$$ just to try one and find out it doesn't work. The SLP can I did own once. The MBRP and Bender I tried that were slightly used from a friends performance shop. All of them I lost power with. I have never seen a sled that loses power with a can like the Viper does though.

please read it all. :bash:

we found that with the header wrap the rpm's stayed the same as with the stock can. that equals no power loss when the can is wrapped. the ceramic coating should do the same in this case.

only way to know for shure is to go out and test with the stock exh and the aftermarket on a lake. if the rpms climb on multiple runs, it is making more power and needs to be clutched more agressively to take advantage of that power.

if the rpms stay the same, you get a better sounding sled with the same performance.

Actually the best way is what I have mentioned many times on here. We own two identical Vipers and a piece of land with a nice strip to run on. We run the sleds against each other with and without the different performance part and see how it fairs. This is what I have done with the three different cans I have tried.......but no I never wrapped the can. I do remember another sled we had in our shop (XLT) that ran a can and it needed to be wrapped.

what do you guys mean by wrapping the can? my slp can i got coming is ceramic coated so would this help? the bender pipe i had last winter used to get to hot. it needed to be ceramic coated because i think i was losing power but it was much better then the stock single pipe. i found that the bender 4x4 was way better then the stck single pipe but it just need to be ceraic coated. im hoping my bender 4x4 and slp silencer will be a great combination. well i guess i hope its better then stock because i hate the sound of the stock vipers. too quiet for me. the mountain max's are much louder then vipers!

Wrap it with some type of heat resistant stove wrap or tape. The XLT can I mentioned was wrapped in a stove pipe cloth looking wrap that had some type of heat resisting material embedded in it. It helped keep the heat in the can. It used to be my uncles sled that I share a shop with.

who ever said that no one can get a better single pipe then stock couldnt of thinked before they speaked. my bender 4x4 is WAY better then my stock single pipe. cant wait to get my slp silencer to try it out with my ceramic coated bender pipe!

No one said that the single didn't work. I assume you are running it into the stock can?? I actually heard THIS did work. The SLP can sure does not work with the stock pipe....that one is for sure. How it will work with the Bender single is unknown. Just because it sounds good won't mean anything. You would need to compare it to some benchmark sled and rider combo. I am not easily swayed by these things. We have had over 30 Yamaha sleds in my family since the 1982 season.....so I have been around these things for awhile and have experimented with alot of this stuff.
