I have a 2002 viper that has fresh crank and reringed. The sled is bone stock with a 1 1/4 ripsaw track. The primary is stock and so is the sec. clutch other than somebody put a pink sec. spring at 70 degrees. The sled pulls hard, but revs 8800-9000 rpm.I have read these vipers pull 8500 rpm.Do they pull best at 8500 or higher? I can slowly out pull a friends rx1 on hard pack trail with it revin 8800 rpm I have to run it against my rx1 to see the difference Thanks for the input

Needs the heavier rivet in the weights.. there are to rivets in each weight... replace the smaller one with #90261-06033-00. This s a common issue with the Vipers....been discussed many times, and the repair actually works. Brings the rpm down to where they need to be.

I run them at 8500 and 8600 on long pulls seem to work the best.Every sled 's tach can be a little off.

Should I leave the pink spring in the secondary. I know the red is stock and I have a green also from my rx1? I think I have the 17.2 gram rivets in my tool box. This viper down right rocks on hard packed trail!!

Yes it is the stock. I was surprised it had a pink spring in it.Thought maybe somebody was trying some different set up,so I left it in till I tried the sled

Sounds like somebody tried to cure a problem with a heavier secondary spring. It might of had a PV problem at some point.

I would swap it for a red or a green if you are changing the helix.

it won't do anything to help rpms. would make them worse on top end, due to the shallower finish angle. you just need to get those heavier (4.5g) rivets.

Mine runs best when it tachs right to 8500 when you nail it and then climbs to 86-8700 on long pulls. (hardpack) It usually stays closer to 8500 if I am running loose snow or powder snow.

on all Yamaha. i'm pretty sure that the stock springs are black no matter what.?

the springs themselves are all black...yes, but they each have a different paint stripe code on them, to destinguish each spring, cause each one has different characteristics....like, rate, initial force, final force, free length, etc.

I put the heavier rivets in th clutch and it pulls 8600 on groomed trrail.I was out today and it run 104-106 on speedo for a mile on soft groomed trial. It creeps to 8800 on road and runs 120-122 on speedo. I going to do some more clutching after the holidays but for now I'm riding Thanks
