On my 02 viper a lot of times when you're going either the head light and tach will die and come back on really quickly or when i let off the gas it starts to sort of bog down and takes a long couple seconds to re-gain power. sort of like trying to go with the choke on it just acts flooded. and the oil light is always on even tho it's full of oil.
any ideas?
thanks

Could be a rub in the wiring harness, but some of the symptoms your describing match the trouble I was having last year. My display would shut off and then come back on when I hit the brake lever or changed from high/low beam. The headlight also would dim badly. It also had a bad bog in the mid range but would run fine when on top end. This last one was only if the hand/thumb warmers were on. I went through the wiring harness twice, unwrapped and checked every singe wire. Also went through the wires going under the tank and seat to the back and the wiring in the handle bar area. Long story short, it ended up being a weak stator. Changed it out and no problems since.

where is the stator?

It is behind your pull start assembly. You'll have to remove the pipe and muffler, then remove the pull start assembly. After that, you'll need a fly wheel puller to get to the stator. I managed to talk my local dealer into letting me borrow theirs, but I've done business with them for many years and know them pretty well. Stator can be had for around $200 or so. My cousin paid the dealer to replace his, cost him about $500. Well worth the savings to do yourself.
This is assuming that the stator is actually your problem. Do the symptoms I described match your problems? I'd hate to see you throw a $200 stator at it and not be the problem.

Check for rub-through before going the stator route...
My Tack would stop working, fuel gauge would go deal etc, then come back. Mine was rub through, and it was the ground, so a BAD GROUND can reek havok with ALL electrical so....
