Head O rings

I Just installed new piston rings on my srx when the inside red o ring for the head poped out. The problem is I can't get it to seat back in the groove. Its seems as if its to big. Is there a trick to putting them back in. Or once its out its done. Its seemed like it got stretched. What am I missing?

chuck it in your frezzer for 10min's or so,don't handle it alot before you put it in place.it will shrink as it cools off.
 
the freezer method won't work, if anything like brake cleaner or similar cleaner, got into contact w/the oring. the strong cleaners cause the rubber to expand and deform for good. i like to apply a little grease to the o-rings, to help them stay in the grooves. the freezer method will help, if the o-rings never got deformed etc, from strong cleaners. i would try the grease method.
 
Thanks for the info. I didn,t hit them with any brake cleaner. two of them came off when I was reinstalling my cylinders. I ordered two from yamaha. I will try again to put them back tomorrow when it is very cold. I wonder if from being squished for so long they expand. As soon as they are out of the groove they will no longer fit back in. At least thats what it seems like.

The freezer method works fine..well it has worked for me anyway!

I would personnally replace all gaskets with new oem.

i didn't mean to say that the freezer method won't work period. i meant it won't work, once the oring is stretched etc, from being sprayed/splashed w/brake cleaner or another suitable cleaner. the strong cleaners deform the rubber for good, and the freezer can't bring it back. if you have a brand new oring, that was sitting in your 70 deg house, and now you go down to your 30 deg garage, yes it might be a little stretched, but the freezer method can work now. see what i mean?
