I finally got to try my Viper today with the newly installed 121" Cobra track in some decent snow. I really liked how it hooked up in the fresh powder. The problem is I am running the saddless Yamaha skis which are Ok for the trail but don't float very good. What I would like to try is a set of powder type skis that would also be good on the trails too. I am leaning toward the Slydogs. I wanted to hear any thoughts from users of Slydogs or any other brand for that matter. Keep in mind it will be used as much or more on the trails but I want the flotation for occasional off trail situations.
thanks

I am running 08 MTX takeoff ski's and they are decent in the powder. WAY better than the stock ones. Trail handling is pretty darn decent, or i guess good enough for me. I am only running the stock Yamaha carbides aswell.

Looking at the Slydog website they make it sound like all their skis (trail/race or powder) float better on the snow than most.
No one else on here has aftermarket skis on their VIPER??

Powder Pro's are good on the trails and off trail. I run Stud Boy Shaper Bars on mine. They turn good. They will make your sled sit up a bit higher too, whether that's good or bad is dependant on the rider.

Hey Journeyman...
I'm undecided on the Slydogs myself...Although I haven't purchased yet...I'll help keep this thread alive so I can learn more myself...I was also looking into the USI X2 triple threats..but now I'm leaning towards the slydogs since a retailer suggested them over the USI's...I think they'd work good on a nytro or 4stroke incase I upgrade in the future...

Yes.....I haven't looked into the Triple Threat from USI but a guy at work mentioned them to me. I guess I have seen so much favor with the Slydogs on this site that it's been high on my list. I did run the C&A skis one year on mine. They cornered really good but for some reason they made my sled sit a little different and it spun more from a dead stop even though I had a 1.25" track on it. We were messing around doing some drags on our property one day and I couldn't figure out why mine was such a turd off the line compared to our other Viper. Then it dawned on me.......the skis! I swapped back to my Yamaha skis quickly and low and behold it hooked up great again. I never did put them back on...though I switched to the Yamaha saddless bottoms and kept my loops. My dad used to own a 1998 XTC-P 700 (P for powder) it was the red head 700 in black but came from the factory with a 121" 1.5" Camo track and the wider plastic powder skis. That thing was a riot in deep fresh powder. It would sit on top and just fly through the virgin snow. The 600SX I owned at the time would just wallow in it......kind of like my Viper used to. This Cobra track has helped my Viper immensely but the front still wants to search for bottom. I rode the 2007 Vector GT of my uncles yesterday and that too wants to search for bottom. I think his sled would work much better with powder skis being there is so much extra weight up front.

OK........keeping this thread alive. What are Viper riders using for NON Yamaha skis?
I want to hear all the opinions.
PS: the orange ones in my Avatar are C&As but that is not my sled.

I just bought a set of Simmons flex skis (look awsome), haven't been out yet (too busy getting it ready) just installed a 1 1/4" shotgun track w/144 studs, rebuilt the rear skid and cleaned the carbs. I'll let you know as soon as I get a chance to go out, we have lots of fresh powder.

simmons work very well with yamis. gen 1 and 2. have used slydog powderhounds with skidoo summits and love them, not on a yami though. did not like usi, will never buy them again. two pairs and hated them. powder pros are good but you need to customize them for good sidehilling. never used c&a.

I run the c&a razors, i like them a lot. They corner like no other and float nice in the powder. I am running a cobra with 144 studs.... My buddy has the sly dogs on his polaris and he says they are the whip.... i dont think you can go wrong either way, i think the dogs are an inch wider, might give more float??? larger print??? Good Luck

we sell the powderhound slydogs at work and they are nice, comparable colors to the simmons, i have the gen 1 simmons on my viper and absolutely love them. i cant say which is better, i think they will both give you great flotation. the super deep keel of the slydogs make me think that it would not be as stable on super hard pack vs. the simmons because of the wide concave dual runner give more contact and a wider footprint......in powder i think the simmons would add a bit more flotation again because of the concave design pushed the sled up and on top of the snow.

I agree 100% I run RAZORS and they are night/day from stock, much wider and add a nice floating effect.....hope you never need to, but on water, they are WAY better. I found out the hard way, but was impresed with the floatability...lol

yep, i had mine in some pretty good powder this weekend for the first time with the new C&A razors and they were pretty f'in sweet. A friend mine was runnin next to me for a while (I had to slow down for him...lol) in the powder with his stock skis and his sled looked like a snow plow compaired to mine that was just floatin on top of the snow. I had a good laugh... I think hes pricing skis as we speak.

How much for the Razors with everything.......considering about 6" of carbide?

I run the powderhounds on my 98 SRX and I like them. I don't have any experience with other brands besides stock SRX and stock Viper skis. I was riding trails and 4ft of fresh powder with some buddies up in the Keewanu Pennisula and didn't have a problem keeping up off trail and on trial was not an issue either. plus they look BA.
here are some pics just for fun.

Yeah I saw those skis at the snowsho right after I bought my white C&A's. I like the idea that you can pick your own colors (I guess put designs in them too.... havent seen the skull and cross bones before - way cool man). My sled has all white accents, similar to yours but I have a little more white, and a pair of those just white and blue woulda liooked killer on my sled. Those look pretty sweet man.

I paid rite around 4 hundo for mine. That includes loops, mounts, 6" carbides and a lil extra for them in white shipped rite to my door. Talk to Rich (RichieRich) from Rich Motorsports - he hooked me up with mine - no complaints here whatsoever.
