Tach Flickering

I have a 99 Vmax, when the revs are low the tach dies and as I give it gas it comes to life. A friend had the same issue on his rev last year and it was a little plastic condinsor or something. Any ideas, I do not believe it is a rubbed wire as the sled has only 4k on it.

I have the same problem but is the other way around, when in idle it will be fine if I go 40/50 mph it will flicker....Somebody said a bad conection on the shock mount, where the 2 wires plug/conect.....Check there maybe.
I haven't fixxed mine yet so let me know if you found the problem....Thanks
