out tonight riding & started really watching tach. All seems good, engage at 3,600 & go like mad. In the loose powder that is on the road, 6-8 deep, it will spin right to 8,800 & keep going to 9 or 91 until I get out of it. This seems quite high. it is a '99 700 mostly stock but geared down 1 tooth, any suggestions??

Read some posts on clutching....you want it when you pin it to go to about 8200 and at wot you want to go to 8500 max. That is on hard pack!!!!! It will over rev a little in the powder!!!!!

belt has about 75 miles on it. It was in the very loose powder when i was watching it. I picked up some rivets today but I will check it on hard pack before i change anything. the problem with that is wot on hard pack I like to watch in front of me, not stare at my tach.

If your sled was clutched right last year but too high this year, your clutches might need to be cleaned. If the stick they will not shift out and load the motor. Just a thought. I just had this happen on my RX1. Started over reving at the end of last year. Took it out first of this season and same thing. Cleaned the clutches and problem was gone. Matter of fact it is almost on the low end of the power band now, but boy does she pull.
Good luck
