I have a 96 Phazer Mt lite with a 1.75 paddle w/7tooth drivers. current gears are 17/33 giving me a 1.94 ratio. I'm only hitting around 50-55mph. I'm considering 18/31 for a 1.7 to try and get a little more top end but I dont want to lose to much bottom. The sled is incredible as far as climbing and playing in the woods but I want to try and find a little more top end for getting to where I'm Playing. Would I be better off putting in the stock 8t drivers and cut the track down for maximun lug height clearance? I know I cant have both but there has got to be a happier medium....I have seen these sleds really rip, I just want some feedback before I start throwing cash at it! If anyone has some gears laying around let me know!

Are you sure gearing will help? Does the tach start climbing after you hit 55mph? if so then you ran out of gearing, If not then you ran out of power. a 136" paddle is alot of track to turn for 58hp.
My SX-R did this when I was playing around with gearing. I went too low and it would hold 8500RPM all the way to 85mph then as the speed climbed past 85mph so did the RPM, TOO low of gearing. I'm currently looking to build a 144" MTN lite out of my 90' since I can't find a used Longtrack Phazer II anywhere near me. I'm going to use a 136" Proaction and move it back 4" to make it work with a 144" ripsaw.

I'm probably running out of power. I'm going to put the stock 8tooth drivers back in and run a 1" aggressive with the 17/29 gears and see what happens. I have an Aean pipe sitting on the shelf so I will see how fast I can get it to go. The 7 tooth drivers really hit the top end harder than I thought. The sled will still perform well in the not so deep....but be a worthy trail sled.
