I have a bone stock 02 Viper, Edge Skid, 9830 Predator Track with 144 studs. Wondering what improvements to do to it, clutching, jetting etc. I do not want to pipe it.I've always ran srx's , just clutched them is all. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Clutching and handlebar riser.
Im not into pipes and major mods either, I prefer to ride my sled , not spend the day tuning it for the conditions of the day! lol

Yep, see the Tech Pages for clutching notes. Risers are a must if you like to stand up, or sit up straight.

Maybe swap skis for more aggressive turning. Really depends on what riding you do, your riding style.

Where do people get the idea that pipes are a major mod and you have to tune on the sled constantly after that?????

Pipes are fine, the SRX runs great with them. However, the Viper ignition map is not designed for triple pipes. Yes it can run good with pipes, and yes they can add a lot of performance. Yes they are a fairly simple mod, and can be quite reliable if tuned properly. However, I am convinced that careful jetting of the whole rpm and throttle range (remember it has a TPS) is needed to get there.

Yep......been there done it. If I had more time like my younger days, I'd still have the pipes on. I like mine back stock.....it's so trailable and much better on gas too.

Superclean, go with clutching. If you want my Heavy Hitter setup PM me. I can't say enough good for the HH's on this sled. I have been very happy with them.

I have the PERFECT set up for a BENDER Piped viper 4 years and not a problem and stock jetting too it has nothing to do with ign. maping at all its a cooling problem with the front heat exchanger. no opti-cool or rear heat exchanger if you run srx cooling system with heads it will be the best two stroke you will ever ride.

I'm on my 2nd Viper after many 4-strokes then piped Doo's before that. The current Viper was purchased with Benders, a peak performance head and HC's. This thing is a rocket compared to the single piped Viper (Both were 04's for the record). I ran 1 tank of fuel through the stocker and sold it because of the lack of performance. If I never would have bought the piped one I never would have believed what a beast these things can be turned into. I have been riding this sled for the past month in greatly varying temps and conditions and have to hand it to the original owner because it's spot on and rocks regardless of temps.

No sorry my set up is not on here. I just would like every one to understand that adding pipes to a viper dosen't makes them less trailable. the problem is withthe cooling system and the carb vent tubes. With the engine out you can see that there is a Y on the front (bulkhead) heat exchanger and with the viper cooling system it bypasses most of the heat exchangers so plug one end of the Y and run SRX cooling system with heads. then vent carb vent tubes to atmospher (like SRX) . now for the fun part (on 98 & 99 heads only) cut head to the squish band about .030-.035 add one layer viper head gasket and TWO base gaskets. drill a 1/2" hole in piston @ the booster hole. factory hole is 8mm rebalance pistons. port cyl. if you want not nessacery. factory jetting is very safe. clutching is up to for sure but the set up is Tunder shift weights @ 52g (tip & mid. hole run the two big brass bolts heel use 2g alum.) stock spring. secondary RX-1 helix 51/43 with green @70 deg. no rear heat exchanger no opti-cool head gasket and no retarted sized jets.Just add gas,oil and go. please show as many 800 & 1000 doo doo's the tail lights. ps. rpm is 8800-8900 7000km's 4 years and not a problem. hope this helps somebody.

Dr Viper, just so I understand you are running the viper front heat exchanger but plug one end of the Y, or you are running the SRX front heat exchanger?

Thanks for all of the great info... :bump:

My 03 has CPR triple pipes, head gasket trick, ported heads(Matczak Porting), RAD valve, of course re-jetted, heavy hitter clutch kit, some secondary adjustment, traction rods, new gearing, and went to the 8tooth drivers with the extra drivers on the outside that hook inside the track clips becasue I couldn't get the track to stop ratcheting. Plus 188 picks with a new 1 1/4 rip saw.....love it love it love. It took a bit of time to get tuned in, but way worth it, not even close to the same sled anymore, very trailable, love to drag race it in the fields, hangs with or beats everyone, other than turbo sleds. But then again people jump on a 1000 cat and think they are the biggest and baddest, we love showin them WHAT"S UP!!! Nothin' like the 2 STROKES!!!!!

Nice, i'm looking forward to getting mine up and running.
Can you explain more on the head gasket trick? Did you add or subtract from the stocker or something else?
