I have been riding Yamaha sleds since about 1994 and this year I sold my Viper in hopes of buying a new sled. I test drove quite a few new 4-strokes and I couldn't find one that I thougth would satisfy my riding. So I bought the sled I thought would do so. I did not want to jump to Polaris but that is what happened. It seems funny to start the learning process over again after being on Yammies for all those years. I think the Nytro chassis with a 2-stroke engine would be awesome or a Phazer chassis with a 130HP 2-stroke in it. I like to play on hills and terrain more than trail ride so the 4-strokes with the extra weight just do nothing for me. All I can do is hope that Yami comes out with something more to my liking in the next 7 years so I can consider coming back. Hopefully this new Polaris does not let me down either.

Back in the early 1990's I went to a presentation by Orbital out of Australia where they presented info on a 4 cylinder 2 stroke Ford Escort that put out significantly less air pollution than the 4 stroke engines of the day. I'm not sure what HP they were getting out of it, but a 2 stroke Escort would be pretty amusing. They were also the company that worked with OMC/Evinrude/Johnson to develop the 2 stroke direct injected boat motors when everyone else switched to 4 strokes to meet EPA requirements. If Yamaha wants to compete with Skidoo on race day, they will look into developing a direct injected 2 stroke, but it will not be the easy to work on 2 stroke of yesterday, but a lot lighter.

I recall reading a lot about orbital a few years back. They had a very powerful orbital 2 stroke in a 3 series beemer as a test mule. As clean and powerful as it was, it never made it to production thanks to the EPA and euro equivalent. This is much like the Bimota V due 2 stroke 500cc LC V twin sport bike that was Direct injected that was doomed due to it being a 2 stroke, regardless of how clean it was.
