02 viper vs Skidoo 800 rev

Ok guys I need some input. I was at a neighbors house drinking beer and the subject of sleds come up. I love Yamaha sleds and i'm not gonna let anyone knock on them too hard. A friend of mine was bragging up his brothers rev 800. I said I'd bet a case of beer that I could beat him in a 1000 or 1500 foot race with my 02 viper. He was pretty toasted. I'm pretty sure he wont remember this tomorrow. Should I let it be or press for a race?
His rev 800 has some things done to it. He wouldn't give any info.
My viper has a peak performance heads and bender triple pipes, 192 woody's studs. The cluch engages at 5000 rpm. I dont know what the previous owner has done to the clutch.. I have owned this sled for 2 years. Should I remind him of our bet or forget about it? Thanks
 
assuming your sled runs good.(where the rpm's should be etc.& depending how drastic his mods are.you should beat him.back when i had my srx that was stock i beat them all the time.not sure of there mods if any....you should take him low & top end...unless he hooks up better..im not sure what you guys are racing on.

It depends on the track, but if you are racing on snow he will get you down low..you should catch him in the long run. 5000 rpm is just too high for snow..thats good for grass. The lower the engagment the less you will spin.
 
Several years ago the first Rev I ever saw was an 800 that walked away from my Viper and my friends 2 vipers as well. It was on lake Gogebic and the guys Rev was very quiet and he claimed it was new and stock, he was a nice humble guy not your typical miserable brand loyal sledhead so I had to believe him. Our Vipers were all set up different as far as weight transfer is concerned (anywhere from min to max). He came from behind and gained about 5 feet a second. My indicated speed on the dream meter was 115 mph. It was impressive and there was no excuse, we would never be able to keep up.
 
I've beaten several MX Z X 800HOs (06&05) in lake races with a stock clutched Viper, so you should have no problem top end with triple pipes on it. As for doing it in 1000', you might have your work cut out for you. Longer 3000' I would expect you to be out in front with the proper setup.
 
the rev 800 "non ho" would be a close race in a short distance. the 800 "ho" will give you fits, especially if he has a good track and hooks up. you will have longer legs tho, for those lake runs. the revs can get out of the hole really quick.
 
I ran heads up with a stock 2006 HO gade a couple years ago with my stocker.......if your setup is good ,you should handle him being you have the triples and you are jetted properly for the day.
 
Just run him for the hech of it, see what happens!

I ride a stock 03 Viper and I was at the radar runs with a buddy last winter. He has a 2005 Ski Doo 800HO and although we didn't race side by side, my Viper was always faster buy 1 - 1.5 MPH over 1300feet...
I NEVER would have thought my 700 would take the 800HO!!! 2 years newer and more HP! Dude, go race him... in a race of that distance, I would not expect to lose! Oh yeah, I also just cleaned my PV's... they were gummed up really bad!!! Can't wait to lay it to all those 800's this year.

The temps got up to 52 degrees last saturday and sunday, so all the snow is gone. The next time I see him I'll remind him and race for the hell of it. Ill take my camera and try to get it video taped.
 
Hey mopar, what happened the other day when you ran that piped, ported, roller clutched, aftermarket head, viper against my REV 800 HO with only clutch work? YOU GOT TOASTED!!!, LOL, had to rattle your cage a little, to be fair to mopar we were running in like a foot of powder and i have a 1.75 paddle track and he had a 1.25 ripsaw. The 800 HO is quick out of the hole no doubt, plus he has some work done too, so i would think its anybodys game in 1000', lake run though i would take viper (the REV would probably blow up, lol, jk jk)

revs r great sleds!! i like em but the raw hp of a yammie trippl is the best... when yamaha made the motors they knew there sleds where heavy so they mad hight hp motors thats what made yamaha... hp!!
