Skids for MM700

Are there any skids from other snowmo companys that mount to an '03 MM700 without any mods being done to the MM? I'm trying to figure out if I should get a long track kit or if there is a chance some other skid would work as well while dropping weight. I've heard of AC M7 skids (153) being mounted to MM's but...Also comtemplating *gasp* getting rid of the MM for a diff., newer sled. I just cannot keep the *** end up on the snow. I have the limiter straps all the way out and the rear drop mounts on lowest hole and middle adjustments on skid on lowest hole. Should I buy new billet drop mounts that are maybe lower than stock? I want to get anti rachet drivers when i replace this all too so help with that, ie. how many teeth, would be greatly appreciated too. Can I run a big wheel, 8" kit on the back too and take out the outside wheels and just run the inside? Thoughts, help, comments?

i would recommend a long track kit from hartman inc. the m series skid is not a direct bolt in for the mm as the mounting locations are totally different.it can be done, but its alot of work. if you still have the 141 track on it, its a piece of crap. go at least 151. it will make a world of difference on that sled. your stock drivers are 8t now, so if you stick with a 2.52 pitch track, you will need 8t, 2.52p antiratchets, available from site sponsors. without a drop and roll, your limited to a 2" lug height.
 
Thanks snowdad4! What a big help you've been. I was thinking about the Hartman 151 track kit. Can/should I get bigger wheels for the back and use only the center two? What are your thoughts on the hyfax extensions with the rail extensions? Probably just add weight and I put on new hifaxs this year anyway. I've heard I could put a 16" wide track on too? True? I am just trying to get my ducks in a row before I call Hartman.
 
big wheels are a waste in my opinion, on your application, unless you want some bling. dropping the outer wheels is supposed to reduce side hilling effort but honestly i cant tell the difference, yet, on the one i did. as for the 16", it will fit but rubs on the factory drop brackets, so you have to address that issue by changing them and adding spacers to the cross shaft. you need to assess your needs and see whats available. you can usually find 151x2'sfairly inexpensive, compared to 16". its only money. the hyfax covered extensions appear to be a good idea, i have no experience with them. i have four sleds with standard extension and have never had an issue.

You might also look at Mountain Performance's (MPI) long track kit....also lose the transfer rods and get a limiter from MPI as well (or make one).

On the other hand, you could probably get into a Polaris Xtra Lite skid for about the same $$. I understand that they install pretty easy. People have been using the factory front mount. I'm not sure exactly where on the rear....
 
It is my opinion that I would try a cat skid. They loose quite a bit of weight and seem to function pretty well. I friend of mine had a 153 cat skid in his viper and it worked very good. He also had a 159" polaris track on it. I had a 151 RX-1 mtn skid in my viper and it worked ok but that skid was pretty heavy but probably bulletproof also.
 
You can install a catskid in an afternoon. More guys should be doing this. Hartman talked me out of the rail extensions/relocate kit and he sells them.
 
i am running a cat 153 skid in my srx now, with a mpi/ekholm tunnel. to make it work, all mounting points had to be moved forward. and this is with a 155 2.86p polaris track. if you have a 121 skid and tunnel, its pretty much a bolt in, less drop brackets. but a mm or mtn viper skids sits 3-4" further back than the m7 skid, or a 121 sled, so if your putting anything less than a 156 on a 2 stroke yamaha mtn sled, be prepared to fabricate. been there, done that. it aint easy, but it works. then again, it worked quite well with the mm skid and extensions to 151.
 
cacsrx1, my brothers' in laws live in Highmore. Small world huh? I appreciate everyones help with my issue but i'm starting to lean more towards the extensions from Hartman. Unfortunatley, i cannot support Mountain Performance so hopefully some else has a transfer enhancement kit that I can get or do you mean the whole light wieght H-arm kit deepnsteep? Anyone know if Hartman has a transfer enhancement kit? The cat skid sounds good but i'm not too hip on drilling new holes and mounting it. I will more than likely have this work done at a shop unless I can get my buddy to do it for me so I want to make this all as easy, painless and inexpensive as possible. So I think the big wheel kit is out, the 16" wide, 2.25 or 2.5 track is out as well as the hyfax extensions. Sounds like the 151 track kit from Hartman with 8t, 2.52p antiratchets and a 15" with 2" lug Challenger track is in. What is everyones take on porting the new track I get?

I think there are at least several threads on here about making "transfer enhancment kits". It's simply a limiter strap that keeps your rear torque arm from over-extending. I have made two...first one on a '98 and the second on a Northern Lites (2000+ geometry). I welded a piece in place on top and looped it around the bottom. I think I just put a bolt on the other one and looped it around the bottom....there's nothing to it. Since your sled is an '03...it will have the "good" geometry. Pre-2000, the proaction skid had a poor approach angle. You can tell this skid by its W arm rather than the newer H arm. Hartman made a kit for the pre 2000 skid that (as I understand) made the force of the snow hitting the front of the skid put more torque on that front arm - causing it to compress (making a shallower approach). It moved the W arm and shock back 2.5 inches or something.....they worked reasonably well I suppose. MPI had a setback I believe for the pre 2000.
