hello, question on my 96 vmax..I was riding it finally tonigth.....as im riding, and running at low speeds, i hear lots and lots of squealing..so i called the guy i purchased from, and he advised that he put a new belt on recently, but he belived that it was the wrong belt, because the belt was on very tight..first off, would a tight belt make it squeal? I have no washers behind the secondary so I cant adjust anymore, the belt is even with the top of the secondary sheave...So what I did was, I took off this belt, and put on the old spare belt...this belt was much looser, and did not squeal at all..what is the worse thing that will happen with a loose belt? its gonna be about a week before i get out to the yamaha dealer to purchase the correct one, will I ruin the sled with a loose belt? the sled takes off alot faster and smoother with this belt, compared to the tight belt, so I figure I should keep the older belt on...thanks for all the help...

The tight belt would definetly cause it to squeek. More then likely the wrong belt.
The loose belt shouldn't truly be loose as it sits with the machine off the belt should not be able to lifted off the cluches and should sit snug (not tight) I don't remember what the defletion is suppose to be.

measure your old belt if it's 33mm or wider your good to go run her...

that sled takes a 89L belt..

also center to center should be 267 to 270mm
