Well sled keeps fouling plugs, adjusted oil pump and put new plugs in.. ran great for about 2kms, then started sputtering, like it was loading up, progressively got worse. I went home, checked oil, seems too have used a little to much oil still. But the pugs were clean, and slighly wet ..... put another new set of plugs in,,, went for a ride,,, after about .5 kms it started sputtering even worse,,,, Like it is loading up, you punch the throttle and it sputters and barely starts too go faster.... what is going on,,,,, help

Yes, as per your last post about this sled running poorly, I can bet your oil pump is shot.

no amount of adjusting will make it right, you need a new oil pump, around 175 dollars new.
I get to ride mine on the 1st -4th of January after it got a new pump. According to the service tech, our 600 venture is a completely different animal now. I thought it went decent before, so I should be pretty happy.

Just talked too yamaha dealer, he says probably not pump, he thinks carbs are iceing up,,, what the ^&^&.
I am so confused right now.
If the plugs are fouling, will the sled still idle and start fine.. Then when I accelerate the motor sputters, wont go full throttle anymore... just sputters...

your mixture gas/oil is 27:1... a little on the rich side but that can be adjusted a little leaner to 35-40:1
check tech pages for cleaning instructions and focus on carbs

just took it for another ride,,, starts right up, idles then when you giver it sputters and struggles too accelerate. Punch it and it just sputters up too speed... does this sound like fouled plugs from oil.... Got it going 130 km but it was a struggle, it would hesitate, sputter then accelerate then sputter then stumble then accelerate... I can best describe it like a car motor that is missing .......
I hate too spend 200 bucks and its not the problem....

This is a comon problem for this year. I worked on a 97 v-max with the same problem. Just replace the oil pump.

You can try to emty the oil bottle and just mix it in the tank. run it until that tank is near empty if it is a rick oil mixture you will know that way. Also when i got my 600 the primary clutch was in really bad shape, the weights and rollers were shot. Ckeck yours

Not sure. JUst baought it this fall. It is supposed to be all stock.
It ran fine the first few times I drove it,but it did have a little missing sound too it when you just held it at a steady speed, but it went like a bat out hell when you punched it. Now it runs like crap. LIke I said, seems like it is missing, or surging even.... I was just out looking for a fuel filtre, cant find it..... I am going too pull the carbs and look at the reeds.. and maybe do a carb cleaning.
People say change oil pump,,, I just puled the plugs they are not black, they are darkish brown and clean now...... They dont look fouled anymore, could they still be,,,,,,, I;m very confused with this.
Could it be a fule starvation.
Called for a pump, 200bucks for a new oil pump, which I dont mind spending if this is the problme....hmmmmmmmmmmm
Thanks for the help, and patience with me , i appreciate it greatly....
I'm not unfimiliar with motors, just useless with carbs, and this sort of thing.

IF the primary clutch is bad, how would this cause my problems I am haveing.
If the clutch is not working properly, it won't let the engine rev. Thus dumping more fuel/oil than it can use. Then it just loads up and spits and coughs

like mcviper said. but instead of emptying the oil bottle just unhook the bottom cable on your throtle and mix your gas yourself (if u have a throtle with 2 cables) if not im sure you can unhook the cable from somewhere else. ive been mixing my own gas for a year now because i busted my motor from that damn oil pump cable slipping off. ill never trust oil injection again.....everybody on this site will tell you to keep your injection but i dident listen lol. everything is working perfect for me ever since.

your fuel filter is in the tank, use a long piece of wire with a hook and reach
in and try to grab the hose and pull it up and out the tank fill hole.
just be careful not to get the fuel sender(float)

I say try premixing a tank full of gas and disconnect the oil pump cable if you want to be certain that the oil pump failing open is the issue. That will at least make you feel better if you find that premixing solves the issue. Make sure to use a new set of plugs right as you attempt this to be certain. If it runs perfectly, then it is not your oil pump malfunctioning, but I doubt it. When I discovered mine was dumping way too much oil in, I found a ton of info backing up the probability of the oil pump being shot. I have never had to replace an oil pump on any of my sleds, even the old indy trail with well over 12k on it still has the original pump. Fwiw, my local dealer up north was not aware of the oil pump problems in 97 on the 600 twin, but he was aware to charge me 300 for the pump and install. Needless to say I WILL NOT buy a sled from him when I get my yammie 4 stroke. I will go to Port Yamaha probably because they are only a few miles away from where I live, and didn't screw me like The dealer in Tomahawk Wi. What was worse was that they said originally to bring it in and they will see if they can cover the whole deal under warranty. I would have been shocked if they had, but to not even throw me a small bone to appease me had me let them know that I will not be buying anything from them in the future.

Have we checked the TORS on this sled yet(link in sig)? If the throttle cable is a little stiff or a little too tight, you could be activating TORS when it gets out side in the cold. I'm not convinced this is your problem but it needs to be checked as well.

Change spark plug boot caps!
Try changing your spark plug boot caps. Un screw them, cut of 1/4" of wire and install new caps. I bet that is your problem, I have found alot of sleds get this issue. Caps don't last forever.
