I have a '98 SRX with an M-10 and I have tried the secondary at 60, 70, 80, and now a 90 degree wrap. What does the wrap change? THe only difference I'm seeing is now I'm only getting 8300 Rpms as opposed to 8500 with the others.
The reason I'm doing this is because I can only get 85 mph on a long (1500ft) pull. I don't think I'm shifting out. She engages at 4000 and jumps right up to 8500 RPMs and stays there. There is an "aftermarket" clutch kit in it but I don't know which one. I don't have a scale to weigh the weights in the primary so I'm *** out there. I want to check my gearing but, can I do it with out losing all the oil in the gearbox? The only other info I can give you is it has a 50/42 Helix in it. Can you fellas help me as this is my first SRX.

Use a maker and draw a line up the side of your primary. That will give you an idea of how far the belt climbs in the primary (will remove mark). You also need to do a couple of hard pulls and feel which clutch is getting hot. That will tell you which is slipping. How old is the belt?
Although you can make some small adjustments using the secondary, the primary should be your focus. Go back to the setting that had you pulling 8500.

So if the line doesn't disappear all the way up the primary sheave I'm not getting to my top end or fully shifted out? I thought the secondary controlled the shiftout?
Everything affects everything when it comes to clutching (IMO). Pretend you didn't have any tip weight, do you think it would shift out very far? You don't want it all the way to the tippy top, but it should definetly be going over half (approx 1:1) close to the 3/4 mark (approx 5% OD).
When I'm tuning my clutches I usually leave the secondary at 60 or 70 and tune the primary until I'm almost spot on. Then adjust the secondary to tweek it for the conditions I intend to use it in.

Can you clarify your first post. At 60-70 you were pulling 8500 rpm, but at 90 you were only hitting 8300? Should work the other way around…

I had my kid with me last nite when I cracked it and only saw 8300 but didn't have any fields big enough to let her really eat. So what differences should I see with different degrees of wrap? Yes at 60 and 70 degrees I was right to 8500 and it just sat there. At 90 degrees I could only reach 8300.

RPM WILL INCRESE WITH MORE TWIST. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Not really enough info to help him with... Need to figure out what weights he is running and work from there. I bet its a Bender kit, using Yamaha primary weights and their secondary setup. Mine wore a flat spot in the weight and didn't shift out properly.shavedheadedyamaha said:i would think that the higher the twist the lower the rpms.. but im not spot on i allways mess with my pri and leave my sec at 70.. ok i get it the tighter the rap the slower it opens witch alows the motor the rev before the 1to1 is met thus having higher rpm at wot... i was looking at it backwards...lol
