what does a engine sound like that is running too lean? any signs to look for before you melt a piston? can you tell by the plugs? and if so, how? thanks, Pete
If the plugs are white then your lean, unless I'm wrong, they should be brownish.
There is a link on here somewhere from ngk spark plugs. Take a look good info

Read your plugs. Best practice is to warm the engine to operating temperature Make a few decint runs, the make a good speed run (50-60) slow down and stop (don't idle the sled just stop and shut it off) Wait a few minutes so the plugs can cool down and you don't burn your hands (they are pretty dang hot sometimes) Then pull the plugs and check them against the chart above. This is helpful to do a couple times after adjusting the carbs and or when the sled seems to be running different. It is also a good idea to check them on VERY cold days to see if you are running leaner as cold days make the sled run leaner and warmer days make it run rich. Not something you have to do all the time after you are confident it is burning right.
