1997 SRX 600 triple???

I am new to this site, but this is the perfect place to ask. A friend of mine has a 1997 SRX 600 triple, but I can't seem to find any info about one here. Does it really exist? Is the sled any good? He wants to get rid of it but it is kinda rough. Is it worth messing with? Would it make a good trail sled? Thank you.

The tunnel date says 1997 and the hood says SRX 600 and it is definately a triple. Any ideas or how to figure it out? Is it worth owning?

Maybe it does say SXR...not 100% on that part. It definately has 3 cyls. and the tunnel says 1997. Is there anything else I can check to figure it out? I will go over to his house and try to get more info. Thanks.

The tunnel will say 1997 meaning it was built that year but it is a 98 model year sled then. I think they are pretty good and with a little clutching will flat out haul.

;)! Deffinitely a 98 SRX. It was the first (model)year the SRX's were brought back into production. I still have mine in the stable, although Ive tried to put her "down" a few times, but she still keeps kicking !! lol

The S X r, was not built until 99 or 00.
 
it's always the later year what the tunnle says,just like cars/trucks a 97 really a 98 a 98 is really a 99 and on and on...

like said above what color heads???? triple pipes???

I don't have any pics of the engine, sorry. Not sure on the head color. It definately has triple pipes and I do recall it having Ohlin shocks on the front. Does that help anything? What color means what on the heads?
 
yamaha had two triples,,the srx had blue heads the other triples(vmax,sxr,sx) had red heads.

is the sled blue in color??????

Yes the sled is blue in color.
Is it sfe for me to assume that the SRX600 and SRX700 are the same sled just different bore, maybe stroke, and carb settings? Or are they seperate animals? I am curious about that so when I do research on it I will know what I can use as a reference. Thanks for all of the help guys.

I think he was asking srx 600 and 700 differences.... You are correct about diff between SXR and SRX..


srx 600 and 700 are very similiar, different top ends/ diff carb settings, and I think a slightly different CDI. Many have swapped 700 parts on to a 600... I own both, very happy with each..

Also, we have established its a 98 and a 600. The 98 SX 600 is a twin,not a tripple. There wasnt a SXR in 97 or 98.
Also the Ohlins where offered as a "spring order only" on the SRX for 98.

Its a 98 SRX 600, unless someone has changed the tunnel or swapped out the motor or something else major.

But you never know, there are a lot of guys with swapped motors out there.

I saw a silvery blue viper bodied venture 700 (03 I think) with a blue headed PV 700 SRX motor in it this weekend. It's pipes seemed a bit different than the stock SRX ones, but it fit nicely under the hood. It also had a 1 up seat on it, so it was like a VentureSRX XTX LOL

I liked that a lot, and the owner was wondering how I determined it to a a SRX motor in it. To me, or almost any TY'er it would have been pretty obvious. The triple pipe snarl from that venture drew my attention, even with a stock silencer.
