Wont Hold Rpm,s Up

I have a 2002 viper all stalk except for hauck clutch kit. From 0 to 8300 rpm's it seems fine but if you hold it to the pin the r's drop back to around 7300. It ran fine when i put it away last season. the only thing i did this year is bought an clutch alignment tool from maxximum performance to try to get rid of some belt chatter that i couldn't seem to cure with shims in the secondary.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also the sled has 9300 miles on it and i did try new clutch springs but it did not seem to help any.

I clean mine around every 1000 miles.
Gap is suppose to be 2.5mm (that puts you about in the middle of spec).

Thanks guy's i did in fact clean the carbs today and it had a very small piece of what looked like plastic with a small hole in it sitting in the bowl. Not sure what it was but it was very fragile. Not sure how it got there hope it was not to important. But i put it all back together and it runs just fine now. Also am i supposed to bleed the oil pump? Looks like the fuel pump mixes the fuel/oil before it makes it to the carb. I did not take any oil lines off so i don't think i need to bleed it not really sure? Thanks again. And my response to the last post is it has never been rebuilt and the odometer read 9345 when i road it today. Think i can squeeze another year out of it????????????

Yes, your valves probably aren't opening quite all the way.

Which bowl did you find the peice of plastic with a hole in it in? Sounds a lot like part of a pilot jet, I personally wouldn't run it that way until I found what it was and replaced it.

No, you don't need to bleed the oil pump after cleaning carbs.

The piece i found was on the left carb sitting on the sled. I Couldn'T find anything even remotely close in looks to it in either of the other carbs. Maybe a ride to my local dealer to look at the micro fish wouldn't be a bad idea. The hole in the plastic wasn't even as big around as the hole in the end of the pilot jet itself. Was you thinking like a plastic washer? Appreciate all the help on this site. Can never have enough knowledge.

That description makes me think its more like one of the shims that goes with the needles/clip. Definitely try to figure out what it is.

Thanks (modit) I didn't get to my dealer today to look at the micro fish. I did look at some online but they weren't very clear. Hopefully my dealer can help figure out what it is. I do also think it is small enough to pass through the fuel system so it could just be foreign matter. What should i look for in the reeds? can you see if there worn? I have never had them out.

Check for cracking or wear spots. The top reed, middle petal seems to be the 1st spot to wear or crack. Just had to replace two on 05 Viper Mtn. with used ones from SRX motor a mechanic had laying around. Dealer had none in stock. Just got six new ones yesterday. Check out this post- http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55860
It shows a pic of the worst one. Other one just looked like wear on the top middle petal. Didn't seem like much, but motor just woundn't hold rpms when you really got on the flipper. If you should replace, be sure to loc-tight the screws.
