Was wondering if someone had details on how to adjust a suspension on the DX version of the 96 vmax? I have read the post here, but all post seem to be for the XT or proaction system. and the only online Manual that I can find is for a 1998 vmax, which I imagine is a different rear suspension, and yamaha cant get a 96 manual anymore. My sled has the 2up seat, and seems to bottom out when I have a heavy passenger in the back, I was wondering if there was a way to make it alittle more bouncy, as it seems pretty spongy feeling....I like the way it rides when Im alone, but bottoms out when with a passenger. is there a specific way to adjust the two shocks in the back? Im afraid that if I keep bottoming out I will hurt the coolers or exchangers since I have a studded track...I appreciate the help, thanks, Pete
 
You should have some adjustable springs at the bottom of your shocks, just tighten them down a few turns at a time until you achieve the ride you want. If they won't go any further that's as good as its gonna get.

without a spring change. they all used the same shock, different models, different springs, or optional springs. cant recall if those shocks were cam adjust or threaded adjust. look and see if there is an aluminum threaded body on the shock or not.
 
this has threads on the shocks.....is it a pain to turn these? It looks like two big nuts, or locks, whatever they may be...I take it, you just get a big set of plyers on there, and loosen the top one, and just tighten the bottom one..is this how its done? and any idea, what it might be that im feeling bottom out with the passenger on this? you can feel it in the back, it is a studded track, and I noticed a protectoer on the rear exchanger, I didnt see any protector on the side coolers, but I also didnt notice and stud marks on the coolers or tunnel, I wonder if its just the bottom of shock hitting. I was worrked it was my track hitting the cooler or tunnel, but the more I think about it, Im not sure thats even possible to have the track hit your tunnel.....I thank you again. Pete
 
you will have to get a shock tool for it. local sled dealer any dealer will have one. and adjust away.
 
I used the large jaw channel locks to adjust mine. Went pretty easy with those. Has to be the big ones though. Regular ones don't cut it.
 
Hey Sandman how long have you been in wyandotte. I was born at wyandotte general. I have family all over there. My cousin owns Fronczaks garage on Biddle, if its still there, haven't talked to him or been around there in awhile. I wonder if you know any of my family. Last names are Fronczak, Crawford, Grace, or Freeman and some I am sure I am forgetting, I have so much family in that area that i never met them all. Don't mean to hijack yankee.
