i am taking out the tunnel protecters(aluminum)on a 1998 srx700 i have taken the seat out and drill out the rivets that hold the back of the protectors under the seat now i need to get to the ones under the gas tank do i need to remove it and what bolts are holding it in

i used a metal chisel and a 5 pound mallet when my track was out to remove the protectors. It worked very well

Why are you removing them??

I believe the oil tank is mounted to the front of the tank, so its kind of a pain in the arse to remove the gas tank.Have to remove the air box etc.

Remove the gas tank. Just unbolt the oil tank unhook fuel line and vent two bolts on tank and don't forget taillight plug on right side of tank and done. It takes 15 minutes.

would i have to remove the tunnel protectors to run a 1.25 Track?
Depending on the track and which tunnel protectors you have. I have 1" extruded aluminum and my new 1 1/4 Predetor rubs the protectors. I just notched the track in line with the protectors to give it a little room.I did the samething to my Ripsaw.
Some guys just let it wear into the track, and say its good after about 100 miles or so.
Are you planning on putting in studs at any point?

no studs with the 1.25 but i will be using a speedtrack with picks. It's a 1.25 bombadier Track..My protectors look like teflon mabey a half and inch.

BD700, I would leave the protectors in. I would also do some measuring when you install the speed track. Determine how far the studs stick past the area of the track that will contact the protectors(in between the track windows), and be sure it is less then your tunnel and heat exchange protectors.

My 98 SRX didnt have them either. I think 99 or 00 they started putting them on at the factory.
My 04 Viper S didnt have them either, but thats because it came with the 1 1/4 ripsaw.
