How Many Studs Should I Put In?

1997 sx 700 has tripple pipes, v force reeds and a thinner head gasket. I mostly ride trails but do ride on the ice as well about 25% of the time. The sled has a camoplast Predator track on it with no studs in it now. Just wondering how many studs, what kind and what length I should go with.

Go with 144 studs provided it is a 121" track. You have triple pipes on that 700, so you should probably do 144 for what it sounds like you use it for.
 
I would not put any in the outside belts of the track,unless you plan on changing tracks in a year or two!

Some are better than others, but I am not a fan of studding the outside of the track for this reason. I have had no issues on my 00 xc600sp with 144 and it has studs on the outside belts. But when I studded the venture with the skidoo camoplast .92 track, I put 108 down the center only.
 
I just put 168 1.115" in my sx that has a .92 lug track.I got a great deal thru extreme.I was a little disappointed how it hooked up on the ice but I think its because my clutch was slipping badly(see "belt trouble).Just make sure you put in tunnel protectors whatever you decide to use.
 
I just installed a 1" predator in a 1997 sx 700 and installed 144 1.75 studs up the center. This is my third track in this sled and from my experience putting studs on the outside destroys tracks prematurely. Always get studs pulling out and ripping the track. This is my first predator and first 144 up the middle. This thing hooks up beyond explanation. So in my opinion and from my experience put 144 of the 1.75 in a 4 - 2 staggered pattern up the center and you are going to be a very happy sled owner. Cheers. :letitsnow
 
Fwiw, the outside belts on the track don't get as much weight to get them to penetrate like the inside belt does.
