Knock Sensor on 2000 Srx

Is 93 over kill? I can usually find 93 without alcohol and 89 with 10% alcohol, but not the 91 that is recommended on the hood.

Sure 93 will have a certain amount more "safety margin" than lower octane fuels. Personally I always ran 93 in my SRX when it was available, if not available I ran 91. Its true that if you aren't detonating, a lower octane fuel will provide more horsepower, but you are also closer to that detonation line (and thus, engine damage) on a lower octane fuel (providing they are both high-quality fuels without impurities). Any 91 octane will be good for the SRX in most conditions. 93 will provide you a bit of extra safety measure against detonation, with a SLIGHT drop in power, unnoticeable by any "butt dyno"
