well here is what i started with. keep in mind that this is a new to me sled. it a 97 SX700 with CPR pipes no porting . the clutch had a painted yellow spring with a blue stripe on it. 8CH weights with either a 2.4 or a 3.1 rivet in the inner hole and no weight in the tip. secondary was a stock helix with a green spring @60 degrees. the sled would run up to about 9400 rpm. these pipes are supposed to be clutched for 9000 rpm. here is what i did based on the suggestions of others. W-S-W spring with my 8CH weights and i added a 4.5 rivet to the tip and no changes to the inner rivet. the secondary i added a new green spring with a dalton 53/43 helix wound @ 80 degrees. it definitely feels better BUT , 8000 rpm is all the motor can muster up. so do i put the yellow painted / blue stripe back in and remove the 4.5 rivet from the tip? then what should i do? i like the way it back shifts. i did not mark up the clutches so i do not know how far the belts are moving. i cant believe that a 4.5 rivet took better than 1000 rpm's away. i remember reading that these pipes do not like a lot of weight.

I would put 8cr weights in with a 13.3mm rivet in the inside hole. use th w-s-w spring and adjust sec.to 70* run an 89L or an 8ch belt!

maybe, but i dont have that stuff laying around . all i have is a selection of rivets and before i did what i did i was over revving a couple hundred. i would like to run more aggressive weights but i still have the crappy .75 track and i have traction issues now.i did notice that the free length of the other spring was about 1/2 to 3/4 inches longer than the W-S-W so maybe that has something to do with it.

that sled wont run very well with those weights and those pipes! you need diff weights if you want it to perform!...try 4.5 g inner and 2.4g outer in your 8ch. should get you close to 9000 rpm

tomorrow i am going to take out the tip weight leave the W-S-W spring and see where i am at. i am guessing it should be over reving. if it is then i will add a 2.4. maybe i do need different weights but we just got 10" of snow and i want to try to get it close with the 8CH weights cause that's all i have and now i need a stator so there goes a couple hundred bucks.

you have too much weight in the tip. you need to relocate it to the middle...those weights are tip heavy..the motor wont hold that much weight that is why you are pulled down to 8000

i put the painted yellow spring back in an removed the tip weight and i cleaned everything up real good. now it jumps right up to 9000 and it will hold there till i let off. i am leaving it alone for now. i will play with different weights later. :letitsnow
