alrite well.. im sure some of you guys saw multiple threads I made about fixing my pv's....
if not... ive been in attempt of fixing my valves since a week or so b4 xmas... finally got all the parts in end of this week and finally got my vavles adjusted and the sled ready to go last nite!... (took me a while since it was my first time doing this myself) THANK TO THOSE THAT HELPED!!!
I tested out my sled in my yard for a good hour make sure the valves where properly working n the whole deal... decided to give the sled a break for a good 15 min n then was time to really try er out in a groomed trail..
get on the trail pin er rev came up to around 8800 (need to readjust clutch weight) so i held the throttle when rev came up to about 8500 sled hit 140km/h no problem and was still climbing not too fast but was still climbing
wether it sounds right or not... i have not driven my srx at 100% yet.. it seems to be that small things pop up that need to be repaired, so i dont kno how fast she should climb in the speedo or what to exepct out of her when she will be dialed in.
anyways i hit the end of the trail n turn around was going to try n hit the top end of the sled.. well it accels decently (didnt pin it) kept revs at around 8500 and as she was climbing to around 130 then the rpms started droping... 8500...8000 7000 then started to bog and die... right when it bogged i hit the kill switch n pulled over... checked the plugs made sure there was spark and checked the colour.. decided to change the plugs for the hell of it n tried starting.. no dice just tried n idles but instantly dies...
so get home check the compression with my thumb just to see if i can even feel anything and there is barely anything just enough to feel the pressure on ur thumb...
So all in all... right now in the garage I have a 2000 srx 700 needing a top end rebuild at the least AND a 2006 Kawasaki KFX 400 that also needs engine work at the least a new piston and crank bearings.
this is a depressing day...= (

Well man.. I checked everything i know about through what ive read on this...
Ive never touched the jetting on the sled.. im gona assume its stock jettin on it since the guy that had it b4 never had problems or added any other parts to it... or any reason to change the jetting... the carbs where cleaned at the beggining of the season.. but now that it nees to be fixed up.. im gona get to mech to make a list of whats what on the sled... jetting size.. gearing ext... its been run on nothin else but 91... which is the best i got for around here.. n its what she needs from what i read...
The plugs where still choc brown.. abit more brownish than b4 but yea.. still a dark choc brown...
im assuming it wasnt running up to par since hitting 140 was ok but 140 n after it took a while to pick up... so i still have no clue what it is...thought it could be the pv's but still came out with a crapy outcome = (
Im going to try and find a mech that knows his stuff with the srx's but might be tricky to do.. even if it involves dishin out more coin than my orignal mech, but the trick is to find some one that will be able to get this thing running stronger than ever and be able to pin point the exact problems causing this... there used to be a guy near by that was good with these but he quit the dealership n i dont kno where he is at anymore.
as for the plans right now, Im planning on doin a full top end rebuild there's 11,000km's on the sled. Time was coming to do so one way or another with that many km's on it.. but was hoppin not so soon...
im lost with this sled right now... i dont understand why its been runin like capoop since ive bought it... ive almost checked everything that could be causing poor performance and i have no luck so far with it... so far ive got.
carbs cleaned
plugs are decent colour
Compression WAS good when bough
Pv's where cleaned and adjusted twice this season so far
Clutching tuned slightly...not best but still tuned decently for revs...
Now im gona have engine work done to it.. i dont kno about anything else... carbs are gona b recleaned and re adjusted when the rebuild is going to be done....
After that if its still not what it should be i got no clue

i would suggest going over the bottom too, while you're doing the top end. it would really suck to have a new top end on it, only to find out you have a crank seal out or something, and then have to tear it all down again....it would be worse if you ruined the new top end, by finding out the hard way that the bottom end is leaking. it would start to get real expensive then. i would suggest changing the main jets to how the '01 srx is jetted.....150 pto, and 148.8 ceter/mag.

i had a similar problem with power loss and i assumed it was the power valves. turns out the person who had it before decided to change the fuel screws. they were out 1.5 turns I set them back to 1 1/8 and she's a sick beast now. plugs are running a nice light brown.it's too bad you had to lose the top end. all the best getting her up and running again!
If your mechanically inclined i would read some threads on here and ask a few members, And you could do most of your rebuild yourself/ excluding the machine work, if needed. Srx are like most 2 stroke engines, the basics still apply. Or pay some one to do it.....
Sorry to hear about your luck.

Yea i was going to get the WHOLE engine looked at top to bottem... I want to know what cause this.. wether it was its time to go or not...
I am not too experience with working on sleds.. but i would be doin this myself if i had the room (father knows abit too so he would of helped also) the garage is packed with all our toys and his harley n my moms rice burner so theres no way im takin the engine apart in a packed garage.. its a good way to start miss placing things... which i dont want... and i guess the plus side to it all.. when i bring it in it will be done much faster than myself working on it... gota look at the brighter side of things i guess...
as if it would make that much of a difference the slight change of the fuel screw...
and ill def look into changin the jets to the 2001 specs...
thanks guys...

Well figured out one of the coses im guessing..
since i bought the sled the idle always sticked on 3000 for around 10secs or so...
though it was normal... but i guess its been running too lean... is that just a quick fix of the fuel screw or jetting???

fuel screws can be turned out to maybe a max. of 2.25 to 2.5 turns. If hangs still..then you go to next size pilot jet. I will be going to a 50 pilot then.

Alrite.. well.. im gona make sure when i bring in the sled to the mech that its properly adjustd and its not running soo lean like it was...
one thing i just found out not long ago... was that my airbox is gutted... but the guy had a sheet the velcros over the holes... ive never taken off the sheet but im sure theres still a slight difference of more air coming in... which could cause the lean?? there's alot of holes in there a good 15 holes or so.. which are all blocked...

Ya if it was me i'd completely rebuild it too, just though it might quicker to drop a complete motor in. It sounds like if your taking that sled back to stock specs, you might want to toss that airbox and put in a stock one. If it was butchered it might be more trouble that its worth.

yea.. know what u mean.... i figured since the holes where block it would be ok... i can even make sure they are blocked even better than they are now... abit of silicone does the trick pretty good.. i dont care how it looks... not like anyone is going to see it.. its covered..

WOW...usually one cylinder or piston pops....not all three. Something wrong with that thing for sure...If you were closer I would say bring it and lets have a look....Thats gonna be an expensive rebuild....While you are at it...to a gasket change as well...crank seals, bottom and head gaskets...this will be well over $1000.
Yamerdown is in the Ottawa area and may know of a good wrench for you. Give him a PM and see if he has someone to recommend.
