i own a 2002 viper and a 2001 sxr i was wondering about how far should a tank of fule last me miles wise.

thanks

It depends on riding style...but...just got back from a ride with 2 other SRXs.... we all got between 14-15.5 mpg on groomed trail riding.... so a safe figure is about 140-150 miles before really needing gas... tanks hold 11.9 gallons. Like to keep alittle in reserve....

ps...If your Viper is over reving..even just alittle..mine was at 8900 wot...Take the time to change the rivets in the weights....I went from 11mpg to 15.4...and that was all I did.

wow that depends on allot of things like dave said, temps, snow, your thumb,
sled set up,stock,modded,etc,etc....

but them sleds well tuned stock should see 12-15 around in that area. and
agin like dave said fix the over rev if there is any,you want 84-8600 on top.

hmm....I put on 170 KMs yesterday, and it seemed to move from full to nearly 1/3 of a tank left...am I burning too much fuel?

Now, I filled it right to the top, so Ill fill it again and document how much gas needed to refill and compare to the 170kms I ran

Well my fuel guage is about worthless.....
It will stay on full for about 50 miles, then quickly drop to 1/2 within another 10 miles... fall to empty with light on at about 75 miles....run another 45 miles to get you back to a populated area...then only take just under 8 gallons...guess I rather have it that way, than running out when showing 1/2 tank.

viper gas

I was out yesterday....drive pretty hard most of the time.....terrain varied from groomed trail riding to full throttle railbed and river runs. I went 120 miles and still have 1-1.5 U.S. Gallons left.

Side note, my srx with no studs gets 14 -16 depending on riding..(normal riding) My riding buddy's SRX with 196 studs only gets 11 -12 mpg..(normal riding). Very close to same setup on both sleds.

thats not bad....

My trail 780 is pulling 13.5 mpg, with 40.5mm carbs, in soft groomed trail conditions. I am expecting 15-16 on solid conditions.

I don't know how you do it. I get 8-9 with my 780 W/CPR pipes. Plugs are tan to Light brown.

The 10 tooth drivers help.
I also measure the MPG using Canadian gallons.

I read 90.1 miles on the odometer, which is about 101 miles in reality. I burnt 34 litres of fuel. I was doing some thinking about it, and I actually ran about 10 miles further than that, since I filled up at home, and we all reset the trip meters at the gas bar.

So now, after doing the math, so I was actually was pulling 14.8 mpg, in the soft conditions, which was 34 litres for 111 miles.

The trip was 101 miles, one way, here's what some other sleds burnt:

2001 SRX700, bender trail ported, edge suspension - 45 litres
2001 XCR800, stock - 48 litres
2000 XCR800, HTG pipes - 39 litres
2002 Polaris Edge 1080 HTG - 52 or 56 llitres (can't remember)
