got a vmax that the rear of it fish tails bad ...i have tryied shimming the skis with a peice of cardboard ..no help ....adjusted limiter straps in and out with no help ....not sure what else to try ...was thinking someone might have tryied to adjust the front skid shock ....if the adjusters on the shock were tightened up too much would that cause fish tailing ? not tightened enough ? skid is mint no play in bushings ...would like to fix this but dont know were to start looking ...also i guess i better ask how do i tell the difference between darting and fish tailing ? all i know is sled is real hard to handle above 40 mph...

One other possibility would be incorrect carbides for the track/studs you have. Manufacturers of carbides have charts to show correct applications.
Darting the skis go where ever they want first. fish taling you just can't keep the rear end straigh no matter what. Is it all the time, when excellerating, or decelerating
Here is my set up on 99 SX, with Ohlin shocks:
shimmed ski pad's, 1/4"
Roetin 8" carbides
1/8" toe out measured at front and read carbide pads
OEM GYTR ski's
Front ski shock suspension Med/Hard
Rear
front limiter bolt 10mm of threads showing
front skid shock set in middle
read skid shock set in middle
torque rods are adjustable, set as loose as possible
7/8 Arctic Cat track with 144 1" studs
4th wheel kit installed
With this set up I have no darting, or fishtailing, Last winter I was all over the place especially upon decelerating. I am very happy with this set up, around 800 miles this year with this set up.

sounds like your riding on the back axle. there is little or no weight on the front of the track. those sleds have very little spring preasure up front anyway, or you might have something broke up front not letting the spring push down on the front of the track.
What would shimming with cardboard do? Get a chunk of an old belt or anything else a little more durable than cardboard. My 98 was the same way until I shimmed the skis.

We shimmed my son's Phazer and studded his track. It had a problem before that where the tail would wag. Now it's fine.
the skid isnt sitting flat, either to much on the front, which you can tell by slide wear. Does it happen just cruising or under full throttle.
If you have really bad darting this can cause some dog tailing if you dont have studs in your track...

Right on Taphee.I knew I had read up on a vendor that was up on this and selling shims. I couldn't recall who it was until you said it.
